I travel a lot, globally.

I want my GPS to take me to the closest unencrypted, open, free WiFi wireless spot... so I can make a phone call.

Now, how would you get TomTom to take you to the closest spot?

POI investigations:
- fon
- mcDonalds (asked me to pay in Denmark -no good)
- any other POI databases?

There are very few open free WiFi services. FON isn't free unless you're a FON member. Using an unprotected WiFi link that has been left open unintentionally is an offence n many countries.

So the simple answer is there won't be a POI file.

If you need such a service you'll have to pay for it, such as BT Openzone or The Cloud etc who all have reciprocal arrangements with overseas partners.

And that POI file is for WiFi services provided by BTOpenzone, TheCloud, T-Mobile etc. It's also very old.

We have an up to date version on our dynamic POI page. These are not free hotspots.
