Blair made a promise, in 2004 and 2005, that the UK would get a referendum on the EU constitution, it was rejected after France and Holland voted no so we never had to vote.
The document, mostly unchanged, has now reappeared as the EU reform treaty.
Should be have our say in a referendum? |

Maybe I should start a Poll.
1. Should we leave the EU tomorrow.
2. Leave the EU the day after.

I'd still be looking for the 'Yesterday' option. _________________ Tim |

I'm not so politically minded, and have cast my vote, no guesses! Brussles has already created some abominable policies, and I think that what may be good for europe may not be good for the UK. And retention of control must be maintained.
I do get this creepy feeling that we will be fully merged with the EU weather we like it or not. _________________ Dom

The problem is that we're ruled by NON-elected commissioners, so we can't even vote these pen pushers out
We already have an international currency - plastic
The Euro might be a common currency, but prices change from country to country, so what's the difference between this and what we already have
Give these guys a break though, they have told us how long and bent our cucumbers and bananas should be, what colour our fire extinguishers should be (instead of really useful different colours in thick smoke) and probably a few other really useful things too which I can't put a finger on at the moment _________________ Andy

Go straight to your room - or sit on the naughty step as it is these days
To be fair, though, Neil Kinnock HAS tried to make changes and stamp out corruption etc (oh dear, I mentioned the C word)... _________________ Andy

Eh, is that the Kinnock who gagged (and possibly even dismissed) the Danish budget whistle-blower? _________________ Tim |

When we take a school group to the continent it can get really silly, in France the yellow school signs that we display (by law in the UK) have to be displayed by law in France, but they are Illegal on 'foreign' coaches in Belguim
So they honestly expect us to pull up at the border and take the signs down and then stop at the border when we leave and put them back up _________________ Tomtom Go730T

It's a conspiracy, you see they make you stop to take your signs down and then to put them back up again so that the kids all jump off the coach to go and buy their chocolate _________________ Andy

Aha, I've found my copy of the memo:
Memo From: Albert Windup, Chairman.
Memo To: All Employees
SUBJECT: European Commission Ruling: 1 - 2491542217 - 1 - 1999.
We have recently received this directive from the EC, as you well know the European marketplace is crucial to our company’s success, therefore we need to take note and apply when required.
The European Commission in Brussels have just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty’s Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five year phase-in plan that would be known as “EuroEnglish”.
In the first year, the “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sival servants jump for joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of the “k”. This should klear op konfusion and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with the “f”. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, pulik akseptense of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach he stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which haf always ben a detarent to akurate spelling. Also, all will agree that the horrible mess of the silent “e”’s in the language is disgraceful and they should go away.
By the 4th yar, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replsing “th” with “z” and “w” with “v”.
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesery “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou” and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. Aftr zis fifz yar, ve vil haf a reli sensibl styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to undrstand ech ozer.
ZE DREM VIL FINALI KUM TRU!!
Any employee who does not comply will be subject to the company’s rigorous disciplinary procedure.
Best regards
A.W.
