Last night [1.0 am] caught on a hand held doing 56 in a 40,but to quote "As you need your license for your job {Taxi} take this as a rollocking but next time be warned "then had a long chat with him and also had a go using the gun 999.9 yds range and can pick out individual cars in a line he was able to fire it of rapid like a gun ! at the traffic.
Only just gone back down to 3 points so he saved my bacon. _________________ Square2024

As this chance meeting has obviously been a positive experience for you, and you do clearly need your license for your job (taxi), then maybe this time you should take his advice. How much is your license worth to you? I now don't speed as your story is far too common place. Too many opportunities to loose your license.
I had a similar situation at about 3am and ended up having a half hour chat and demonstrating my cool car alarm. He also admitted that he had pulled me because he was bored. _________________ Dom

And your story is just one of the reasons why I deplore speed cameras but approve of police operated cameras.
A police officer can use his judgement to decide whether prosecution or a warning is required. In your case I presume the late hour meant he was using speed checks to give him cause to stop and talk to drivers, looking for drink/drug drive and other motoring offences etc.
In your case, as no other offences were detected a verbal is just as if not more effective than a ticket. Gatso's and safety cam partnership mobiles do not offer this ability to make a measured judgement call, they just dish out tickets regardless. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm inclined to agree, but my understanding is that a camera operator doesn't have any discretion. If the vehicle is over the limit then it just prints a ticket doesn't it?
A bored copper taking pot shots with his laser is another story - maybe you can talk your way out of that one and he will use his discretion. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I've been stopped a few times (probably more) on the M4 and M40 for misjudging the speed limit whilst riding the bike. Difficult to watch the speedo and dodge traffic at same time.
Always held my hands up, ate a bit of humble pie, stopped and had a chat because traffic cops ride bikes as well.
I've got no complaints, the bike is legal - no dodgy plates or pipes, I've been in the wrong.
A camera doesn't give you that option. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

What do we do? Convert these letters to Lat/Long coordinates and heading? Quote: | Last night [1.0 am] caught on a hand held doing 56 in a 40 | I've got the speed limit, but I'm struggling with the rest . My post was NOT a criticism, more a way of saying you have a rather unique set of comments which you could add into the comments box on the submission page to get that site added to our database. _________________ Dennis

As an ex Traffic Officer, 253's comments explain exactly how it works. If you're being a muppet and start mouthing off you WILL get a ticket. If you're being a complete muppet you're going to get a ticket whatever you say.
If you're borderline, there are no mitigating factors that exacerbate the offence and you take it on the chin then you stand a good chance of walking away with a verbal. It's not rocket science. GATSO's and Safety Camera partnership vans on the other hand are ON/OFF, no in between.
I also have issues with any offence that is dealt with by posting a letter to you some days/weeks after it's alleged commission. Your opportunity to defend yourself has been drastically reduced by the passage of time. If you're stopped WHEN you commit the offence you will have a far batter recollection of events and the opportunity to state your case both then and at a later date if necessary. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have edited some posts to remove controversial comments which ought not have been posted _________________ Darren Griffin |

I might be wrong dennis, but I think Square2024 may have meant to say "If you are referring to my initial post, then yes, I have"
Am I right in thinking that you have submitted the mobile site!
Strange how a comma and a few letters can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
And darren, I think dennis was trying to be funny! Not sure though. Might have been one of those beers he keeps in the fridge by his desk! [hic] _________________ Dom

I don't doubt it, but I thought it easier to edit out the comments from various parties to prevent it snowballing _________________ Darren Griffin |

I submitted the the location and in the comments I put the reason why the police camera that part of the road as explained to me by the officer ,what more can I do ?
Did not realise me commenting on a Traffic officers goodwill would lead to this. _________________ Square2024
