We're forever moaning about something, so I thought we could have a celebration thread for a change.
Today I watched my first Ice Hockey match, wherein one of my grandsons (age 10) scored TWICE. As they won 11-0, I could realistically say that he would have won the match for them even if two others hadn't got hat-tricks.
My daughter shushed me, just because when he scored I jumped up and shouted "That's my grandson who scored that one!" and after the second, I kept shouting "Get me a hat-trick". She thought I was being loud and embarrassing - there weren't a huge number of supporters, so you could hear me I suppose. Anyway a nice man (Southerner Softypants - they're all from Essex) said grandads are allowed to be loud. And anyway, to put it all right, I did shout "It's all right, I'm not with anybody".
Let's hear yours now? _________________ Dennis

McDonalds
Yes, it sounds crazy, but the Ronald McDonald Childrens' Charity provides accommodation for parents with children in hospital.
Having been in the unenviable position of my baby son being rushed into paediatric intensive care with meningitis, the last thing any parent needs worry about is where they're going to sleep.
In the south of England, there are only 4 paediatric intensive care units - Southampton, Bristol, London & Oxford - so it's quite possible that parents will find their child some distance from home.
I'm not a regular visitor to McDonalds, but when I go now my loose change ends up in the charity box.

And now I feel pretty pathetic! A very worthy charitable cause. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I haven't got a lot worth an applaud at the moment but I feel that DennisN's grandson deserves a second round of applause for two goals. We want photos next time. _________________ Dom

Great Ormond Street Hospital, there are no words to discribe the great work that all the staff does at this charity funded hospital for children.
On a lighter note....Congratulations to Wales for the Triple Crown and bad luck Italy, edging ever so close to the wooden spoon!!!!
But there's always next year....who knows, miracles do happens!!!! |

GOSH was our nominated charity for the last GPS Expo, a thoroughly worthy cause indeed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I would like to nominate my 7 year old daughter for a big pat on the back...
In one week she passed her second Royal Academy of Dance ballet exam with 90% and also gained her 400 metre swimming badge, swimming 16 lengths of our local pool.
Not only am I pretty poor at ballet, but 16 lengths aged 42 would be a bit of a tall order, so how a 7 year old can do it is beyond me. Her swimming coach says she is the youngest pupil she has ever had to swim that far.
Naturally I am chuffed to bits.
Oh, hello folks, sorry for being absent... haven't seen much I wanted to reply to ! _________________ Tommo...

Well, I've decided to give myself a clap - two claps actually.
1. At CenterParcs last weekend I did roller blading for the very first time. The last time I was on roller skates in 1948 it was a lot easier, so I think I'm up for a really loud clap. And of the five of us doing it (four grandchildren under 10, one fat grandad of 68), I was the only one not to fall over.
2. I posted a thread good enough to get Tommo back out of the woodwork. I for one have missed you, friend. I hope you've been busily getting all the VW drivers on their mobiles.
Congratulations to 7 year old daughter, by the way - specially for the swimming, which I am a bit fanatical that children should do. _________________ Dennis

No chance! I had seven adult family members chewing their nails to rags, watching and worrying just how the hell they'd get me home from hospital and my van from C-Parcs!! _________________ Dennis

Well, you are at least a REAL celebrity who people have heard of - not these 'has beens' trying to resurrect their careers by appearing on a reality TV show _________________ Andy

Thanks mate. I don't just limit myself to VW, any brand will do. My monthly score is always looking for volunteers to join it !! _________________ Tommo...
