Having (at last) got a job today, I joined the general tourists and headed to Exeter. On the way, it crossed my mind that there will be loads of sweaty, bouncy kids making life hell for any number of drivers, so it might be a good game for them to play a specific version of "I Spy", looking out for interesting curios on the trip. Postings here for all to grab, please, but only main tourist routes, no off the beaten tracks. I'll start you off ...
M5 just a few yards south of Junction 21. On the western side is a thin spire, mini Cleopatra's needle sort of thing. Shiny metal. At night, it is illuminated by tiny lights which morph into different colours, nicely.
M5 south of Junction 23. Heading south, just after leaving the junction, on the western side is the Willow Man - sort of Angel of the West country style. Just a little further south, you might see in the farm outbuildings, some Bridgwater festival floats in store for next season.
M5 further south of junction 23, western side again, there's a couple of camels in the hedge close to the motorway. Need to be sharp to spot these now, as the hedges need cutting. They look to be papier mache or somesuch, one brown, the other yellow. Sometimes have scarves on.
M5 south of Junction 24. Western side again, there's a nice blue Dinosaur in a field at the side of the motorway. It looks to be on a red lead, so no need to fear for your lives. My grandson refused to believe the photo I took with my mobile phone, one 5 hour traffic jam - he says it's not real, because the only real Dinosaurs are in Dinosaur World, wherever that is.
A303, between somewhere and somewhere (approx 50.916427, -3.006498) in the side road, Raisey Lane, on south side. A Hind and fawn made of willow, leaping over the hedge. _________________ Dennis

.......and a partridge in a pear tree.
It's alright for you in the pleasant countryside on a leisurely trip to Exeter, here in Kent we have sky high road works around Dartford Tunnel and plenty of Specs camera's, can they be included? _________________ TomTom Go 60

I used to get my kids to play cricket based on Pub signs.
I am sure you all know it; signs which indicate legs count as runs (1 per leg) and signs without legs count as wickets (Kings Head etc.).
Used to have an argument about the number of runs scored for a pub called "The Army and Navy" though! |

I take a party to Blackpool each year for a week, well long story short, they all put a £1 in the kitty and the one who predicts how many 'eddies' we see on route takes the lot.
Welllllll, I thought to myself that I must be in with a chance of winning this, after all I do thousands of miles a year
I predicted a modest 6, you rarely see them in my area
forty eight where the hell did that lot come from
(Via M5 & M6)
I'm not playing any more _________________ Tomtom Go730T

1. Eddie spotter and proud of it.
2. What's an Eddie?
3. I've got a life & don't care!
4. I'm not playing any more.

The problem isn't spotting them so much as being ananorak and trying to read their number plate, name or fleet number...OK if you overtake one, but when they're travelling in the opposite direction
you've got about 1026 trucks to spot
not that I know this of course but when your kids are in the fan club...
Going up the M5 and M6, you come pretty close to 2 depots - Daventry and Carlisle - so you can expect to see a few _________________ Andy

motorway driving is soooooooooo B-O-R-I-N-G and you need something to do just to keep you awake
it's no worse than PGPSW members playing "spot the camera"...but how many members haven't played that?? _________________ Andy

Carlisle's a bit far for regular travel, but I'll watch out for Daventry next time I'm up the M5 (tomorrow actually, going to visit relatives near Leeds). _________________ Dennis

I know your GPS plays up at times, but surely you must know that Leeds is nowhere near the M5
chipped windscreen today - but it was extremely tame compared with yours.
They might be able to repair mine...funny thing is whatever it was only made a slight ping when it hit compared with the almighty thud some things make when they don't even leave a dirty mark _________________ Andy

Those "free repairs" amuse me - I've only ever had ONE. Somehow, the rest seem to be the wrong size or shape or something else - I even had one where he said it would be best not to touch it - if he drilled to prepare it, the drill might pop it.
I'm impressed by your selective quoting - We all KNOW Daventry is nowhere near EITHER the M5 or the M6, but to chop mine off short to say I'll not be near M5 going (up it on my way) to Leeds is something else. _________________ Dennis
