|
|
My test date has finally come, and I am due to take my advanced drivig test on Monday. I already know my examiner in a nice local man, Driving instructer, and as expected an ex police traffic officer, with police licence to boot. I'm not too aprehensive at the moment but 48 hours is still a while away.
I have been quite imressed with my experiences with IAM so far and even if I don't pass, the new driving tech I have learned will not have been waisted. Every first sunday of the month for six months I have driven pre-determined routes around Guildford, with polite observers who assist in learning to drive with a higher level of observation and attention. Some of the skills learned can even make your driving experiences enjoyable once again.
For anyone who is interested Here is the link for the Institute of Advanced Drivers.
Even if I pass or fail (hopefully pass) I'll post what happens on Monday after the test! _________________ Dom

Good luck mostdom, of course you will pass the test, be positive, with six months training you will get through, so get the bubbly in the 'fridge for Monday night. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Mostdom
Well done for applying yourself enough to just take the course. Whether you pass or not (and I'm sure you will) you will have benefited greatly from just the observation side of things. More people should take this type of course and anyone banned due to a poor driving standard should be made to pass this before they get their licence back.

A shocked and stunned DennisN! I shall savour the moment!
No really guys, thanks for the support, at the moment I think I really need it. And I totally agree with tommo there, as a few extra skills on our roads would probably make a whole load of difference. _________________ Dom

Sorry for the delay, but not this time!
Anoyingly I did everything right bar one mistake, which in itself would have been fine. However my examiner was accompanied by an observer, which is what I think made him fail me.
At first I was fine with that, until he tried to justify his desision by questioning the rest of the drive, and made several comments that just made me angry. One of which was that I failed to show progressive driving on a notoriously dangerous streach of road, whilst in the wet.
I'm still pretty miffed at the moment, so maybe a good nights sleep will clear my head.
Thanks for all the support guys, your support really helped, so I'll just have to get right back on and try again.

Sorry to hear that, mostdom.
At least the experience has shown you what to expect next time, so hopefully you'll be more relaxed, which will help you get through. _________________ Anita

Don't be too hard on yourself, few pass first time and the experience will prove invaluable second time around.
I passed my Police Class 1 Bike and Car 12yrs ago. When i returned to civvy street and joined the IAM I chose to take the test rather than accept the membership open to me as a Class 1 holder and guess what ... I failed! I was disappointed and angry at the time but took it again a few weeks later and passed!
Observation skills are something that everyone should be taught (that and spending a few months on a motorcycle!) and the training and pass will stand you in good stead for a continued long and safe driving career. _________________ Darren Griffin |
