navman smart desktop 2006 poi import program is no longer compatable with acs files. It no longer gives users a choice to find *.* files and will only list csv files. some posts are starting to appear on the forum regarding this issue.
Changing file from .acs to .csv solves problem.

Either additional poi download for new navman software should be made available or update the instalation guide.

The 2006 Desktop programme for the iCN530 is still compatible with .asc files. This might be an issue with the 7xx series, although I've been told by a Tech Support guy from Navman that .asc files are still compatible. Until I get hold of a 7xx myself, though, I won't be sure.

interesting, the acs files are compatable but only if you change the file extention from file.acs to file.csv, as I explained.
I upgraded from the old icn530 to the new icn750 where the 530 used to work but not with the 750's software.

When you use the open poi file in smart st select the extracted directory there are no shown files. when you go the change the file types it only gives you the csv option.

I have no issue with changing file extentions. But less pc savi users might not.

OK, there is another fix which doesn't involve the renaming of any files. It's true that the Navman POIEditor for the iCN7xx range defaults to look for .csv files and there is no way to change this in the dropdown Filetypes window. However, if you type *.* in the Filename window then you will see, unsurprisingly, all files! Double click on one of those listed .asc files and your POIEditor will recognise it immediately.

I have tried your suggestion and tried the 'search button' but i cannot get my system an XP home edition to recognise the file to open it.

Is this still a ZIP file even after it has been opened?

If not, how can I get it to be read?

It is still a zipfile until after it is unzipped, even though Windows allows you to look inside the individual files. My laptop has XP Home on it and I can extract the files using Windows Explorer.

If you double click on the zipfile, don't you get the option to "Extract all files"?

You can download Garman POI loader safety camera data base which is in csv format already and then upload it to your N20 works great.

Hi

I just got the ICN 720

Converting the files to CSV results in message from POI Editor of 'unknown file format'

It does not matter what I do the program gives the same message.

If I DON'T rename them and use the '*.*' method, it says 'unknown file format'

THIS IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL

What am I doing wrong?

A NOOB question - when I download the files from this site, are they 'zip' files or not? Searching the forums has not enlightened me, but when they appear on my computer, they have NO file extension, and simply say 'file'. If they are compressed, what format are they supposed to be? Winzip tried - unsuccessful

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RENAME THEM, CONVERT THEM OR ANYTHING ELSE THEM. The Navman POIEditor can be forced to display .asc files by putting *.* in the File name box. They are in zip format and need to be unzipped first.

...and if you are not seeing the .zip extension its probably because you have "Hide extensions for known file types" ticked in Windows Explorer Preferences.

In Win Explorer (or My Computer) go to the Tools Menu / Folder Options / View Tab, and untick it.
