Posted: Sat Jan 17, 2009 2:24 pm Post subject: Should a RDS-TMC Receiver work with new v8.15 Map on 710 |
|
|
Hi,
I've updated my dads tomtom 710 with the latest map western Europe map (v8.15), but now the RDS-TMC Receiver not working it connects to the tomtom but can't find a signal.
We've removed the memory card and tried the old one which came with the tomtom and the RDS-TMC Receiver works fine. It worked on the new memory card we have until I installed the new map.
Can anyone help?
Cheers |

The updated Navcore software messes up a file needed for the RDS-TMC to work, connect the device to the PC and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the memory card.
In the root of the card will be a file named "mctx.dat" right click this and choose "Open With" then select NotePad.
The contents if messed up will look like:
TX01CVε .PQ'ξVN$dydGz~z
You need to delete all that rubbish and put "22220" (without the quotes) in, save the file and your unit should now work with the RDS receiver - Mike |

BUT the OP is asking about an x10 device and the Navcore update applicable to his unit is known to mess up the file which prevents reception. Putting the contents of the file right will cure the problem.
@mz500r - are you having reception issues with your 720? - Mike |

For information Mike, my 920T works fine RDS-TMC wise. The mctx.dat file is garbled, but I also have a mctx.txt file which contains ...
Quote: | In France using ViaMichelin
In UK using ITIS
In Finland using Destia
In Italy using Infoblu
In Germany using TMCPro
In Sydney, New South Wales, Australia using Intelematics
In Melbourne, Victoria, Australia using Intelematics
In Brisbane, Queensland, Australia using Intelematics |

This problem is relating to the x10 device the OP posted, I am going to split out the other posts to a new thread as it is getting a little confusing - Mike |

That will probably be down to your PC's file association settings, at least you have fixed it, but remember this one for the next update to the x10 because if TomTom don't resolve the issue at their end any new update will probably disable the RDS-MC again - Mike |

Mike, my 720 has an mctx.dat file that says Quote: | TX01CVε .PQ'w^';m#5OϺp<#HpT w | and I have an mctx.txt file the same as Dennis. I can't test my RDS-TMC as we have no RDS radio service in range in Guernsey, although it seemed to work ok last October in the UK.
Do you think I should leave the mctx.dat file as it is please? _________________ TT Go Essential |

It looks like you are not seeing the three letter"extensions" on the end of the file names.
We usually suggest that you set Windows Explorer (or My Computer, that's the same thing, but NOT Internet Explorer!) to show the three letter file extensions. It makes no difference to the copying process, but it can help sort out other problems if you can see EXACTLY what the various files are called.
In Explorer: Got to the TOOLS menu / FOLDER OPTIONS / VIEW Tab /
In the "Advanced settings" section:-
UN-Tick "Hide extensions for known file types"
I would suggest you also tick "Show hidden files and folders" at the same time.... It does no harm (and is useful for general PC work) but there are no hidden files or folders on a TomTom to worry about.[/quote] |

Andy, strangely in the Forum I'm a SuperMod for, I've had one or two posters claim they couldn't find the sample mp3 files to delete. Turns out, for whatever reason, they were set to 'hidden'! _________________ David |

If you read the OP you will see this is a problem relating to an x10 device, so any prescribed solution is ONLY applicable to the x10 devices which are running different software to the x20/ x30 units - Mike |
