News: Police to Fund West Midlands Speed Cameras

The Express and Star reports that speed cameras will remain operational across the West Midlands.

The area's police force, who receive income from speed awareness courses, have agreed to pay more than £1 million to keep fixed, mobile and traffic light cameras at high risk sites switched on.

Previous budgets for speed cameras in the West Midlands were handled by the area's councils through the West Midlands Road Safety Partnership, but following the government's budget cuts, the councils decided to save the £750,000 earmarked for funding "old style" speed cameras. They claimed that the old wet style film technology was outdated.
