Unfortunately, bathbadger appears to be correct - CamerAlert is stable whilst static but crashes on the move.

Do you have 'Prevent Standby' enabled in settings?

Crash logs do eventually filter back through to us via Apple but to speed things up can you locate them and send us them?

Can you send them to us at team AT pocketgpsworld.com

Am also suffering same problems.

Just checked my crash logs and it would appear that the crashes are listed as 'LowMemory' rather than CameraAlert. Not sure whether this helps.

Am running iPhone 4, updated with iOS 6.1, fully restored post upgrade and Camera Alert app deleted and re-installed with no change in performance.

Thanks Simon. I was beginning to have my suspicions that it was a memory issue as the iPhone 4 is the oldest device with Retina screen that runs iOS 6.1...

In map settings, if you change from 'Always' to 'Near Camera', it seems to improve stability.

Unfortunately, my journey is too short to thoroughly test, but CamerAlert did not quit at all this morning when it would otherwise have quit at least 5 times.

As it appears to be an issue caused by the vector maps gobbling up memory in 6.1, you may find that switching off the maps stops the crashing completely.

I know this isn't a long term solution but it might at least allow you to use the app, without it crashing, in the interim whilst we research a fix.

...if maps are turned off completely, would you still get your average speed displayed in an average speed camera zone?

Which, again, goes hand in hand with the memory theory - if the maps are only being displayed for a short period (near a camera) then there is less map data being stored in memory and therefore the 'crash' will take longer to occur.

I updated to iOS 6.1 this morning, and immediately encountered the problem with Camera Alert shutting down every two minutes or so. I'm just in the middle of a phone restore at present, then will try it with maps always on and with maps only on near camera, see how it behaves and report back.

Try it with maps set to 'Never' - this has improved stability for me.

Even with maps set to "Near camera" you can mitigate the issue for some time. I did some performance analysis with the Xcode tools ("Instruments") and there is definitely something broken with the vector map memory management. It is sufficient to pan and zoom the map around a bit to cause the app to silently terminate - without a crash log. Memory usage can go as high as 250 MB which is especially problematic on low spec devices like the iPhone 4 (not sure how much RAM it has but I seem to remember it was only 512 MB).

Looking in the Apple forums they are certainly aware of the issue but it doesn't look like a fix was included in the latest 6.1.1 version.
