Still not sure...
Today did a voice favourite find.
I picked the one by voice, then at the screen where it asks you to navigate or exit I said "navigate" but nothing happened.
Device locked up on that screen, tried unplugging power cable no change, and thus had to hold down the power button to clear the screen and it rebooted.
Been okay again since then.

Crashed again this morning turning off
Perhaps an issue with the new maps?
Anyway, no time to sort out this week but if no fix soon I shall arrange a replacement.

7.90 has not stopped my unit turning itself off / crashing so I guess it's time to raise a RMA with Garmin

Just sent my 2495lmt back to garmin because it keeps turning off, and this is a replacement unit as the original was doing the same.
I asked if this was a common problem and got told no!
This unit would turn off either during navigation or not. If I unplugged the 12v supply and plugged it back in it would restart the unit, however the previousone you had to unplug it and press and hold the button to get it to switch back on.
So if this keeps happening and the original warranty end date passes, I take it it's ready for the dustbin and have to buy a TomTom? |

I was getting a bit of both, sometimes just unplugging the cig plug would allow it to restart and other times I needed to hold the power button down (while trying not to crash).
I have not yet bothered to send it back, is it worth the effort I ask myself?
Prior to two software updates it never crashed once so I still suspect they have caused the problem in one of the "enhancements"

A replacement is on it's way so we'll see what that does.
Wasn't much effort, one call to Garmin (tell them you've already done a master reset) and £1.20 first class post. |

The replacement was no better. Plugged it in and twice that afternoon it shut down.
Back on the phone to Garmin and after a long (decent) conversation we found one abnormal thing. The unit was displaying it had 7.7 software despite Garmin Express saying it had 7.9 installed.
I had to open Mygarmin dashboard where it let me update again and now the nuvi shows 7.9. (I did update the unit when it arrived).
Garmin said if it continues they will replace it with an upgraded model? 2595, thats just a bigger screen right?
Anyhow I used it for half an hour this evening and it hasn't shut down yet but I'm not holding my breath! |

My one still poorly and I noted today the voice command menu had changed option names...
Prior to 7.90 it had "Recently Found" and now it is "History"

Well 2595 arrived and day one was fine, day two and it's shut down three times. Only this one is a beast to wake back up. Have to unplug it and keep presing the button until it eventually wakes back up
What a crock of sugar these models are. |

Indeed, my one still does it and often when I pick a destination it will shutdown and it takes about another four tries before it will get to the accept screen without rebooting.
Then it will be okay as it was till a couple of software updates back.
I was wondering if it related to the traffic module or bluetooth but it still does it without the module and with BT disabled. |

Bit of an update
Garmin started saying that the van I use it in may be giving voltage spikes that cause a fault in the unit so it kept shutting down in the other 2 vehicles I tried it in.
For some unknown reason I opened the box the nuvi came in and looked at the power lead. It had a red led instead of the green one on all the previous ones supplied. ( i didn't use this as I had tried 3 different power leads previously)
The newest one was a GTM35 as opposed to a GTM25.
I plugged this one in and the nuvi has performed faultlesly ever since.(touch wood).
So whats the difference? |
