My cigar lighter fuse keeps blowing! my Skoda garage blames my Garmin 1490t sat nav. I have used sat navs for years without this happening.
Could they be correct? _________________ glossyballs |

Not if everything is working as it should (but then you knew that!)
I would have thought the Garmin charger should be pulling a maximum of 1.5 to 2 Amps from the car electrics, and the fuse is probably rated at around 10 Amps. So it sounds like something is actually shorting out the cigar lighter circuit, rather than just pulling a bit too much power.
Have you tried the obvious experiments like driving for a while without it plugged in at all, or with JUST the charger plugged in and without the Garmin itself on the end of it?
And do you have anything else with a cigar lighter power plug (like a phone charger) that you could try in it's place? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Well it's not your 1490 if everything is working correctly
Mine has never blown a fuse.
As Andy suggests, there must be a fault somewhere ... either in your 12V socket or in the nuvi cable, or possibly the nuvi itself. Have you tried in in another car to see if it blows a fuse there? |

When my Renault van blew a fuse they first tried to suggest it was my plugins setup (just because I have five things plugged in all the time! - two satnavs, two iPhone mounts and a tracker ).
But it wasn't. My fuse housing had a dodgy seal and water got in and blew one, together with several things like number plate light, part of the dashboard and one rear side light.
It took them (the dealership, who know how to deal with stuff ) two hours to open the thing up and replace the fuse. It was nice knowing the van was under warranty. _________________ Dennis
