Perhaps it covered only a tiny percentage of the total highways network, motorways only for example - in Scotland congestion data covers only the Glasgow/Edinburgh area so such a scenario isn't impossible.

But.... Congestion data is not the problem. The problem is road closures. Every time HD Traffic has failed me over the past 11 months has been due to road closures. These ARE covered by TrafficScotland, even on some fairly minor roads!!! Take a look at the 'Current incidents' page Evil or Very Mad

What we are moaning about is that these closures appear on Trafficscotland, RAC travel and BBC travel. Surely it cannot be beyond the ability of TomTom to include these incidents - a 40 mile detour caused by a road closure is worse than 20 minutes delay, is it not?

If the RAC, AA, Google and the BBC can get the data, why can't Tomtom? Without it, HD traffic is often totally useless Shocked

I raised a support request regarding this with TomTom. They are (apparently) investigating it and have...."escalated the report to the concerned department for further investigation."

I shall not be holding my breath for a response. Rolling Eyes

I still haven't had a reply from them. Both them and TrafficWales were contacted at the same time. As soon as I have a response I will post up here.

What I can't understand is if TrafficWales was providing TomTom with this information for free, why have they [TomTom] stopped requesting the information from them? Surely this information enriches their product at no apparent cost to them.

And why only run it for a trial month then stop? Confused

Is it possible that the permission from Traffic Wales was not extended beyond summer and that the data is not currently available to TomTom?.

Edited.

Dear Graeme,

Thank you for your valuable time and reply to my e-mail. This is XXXX and I will assist you on behalf of my colleague.

Your case has been escalated for further investigation. We hope to have a response for you shortly.

Please bear with us while we look at the situation. Many apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Gone to 2ND Line support apparently. I have also asked three times now..

"Could you advise if you use Traffic Scotland and/or Traffic Wales (www.trafficscotland.org / www.traffic-wales.com) for traffic information. Of the issues below, traffic Scotland was correctly reporting this and many other issues.

You website (http://www.tomtom.com/livetraffic) does not report any non-congestion related information (for example road closures) for Scotland or Wales, however it does for England."

Never had a reply to the question.

Havant' heard back from traffic Scotland yet. Request was made via transport Scotland on 29th who acknowledged and forwarded on the request on.

Last "were looking into it" email from TomTom was on 11th Jan. That said they addressed me as Ian so If they can't even get my name correct what hope do we have of any feedback?

Haven't heard back from Traffic Scotland either, and they acknowledged the request on 29th December so their 20 day response deadline has passed.

And they charge about £47 per annum for this (dis)service??

Whatever sources they use (mobiles/highways agency/radio/a quantity of vehicles fitted with transmitters) their data is of a very low quality for a significant proportion of the population.

I get the feeling that it is down to where you are located and roads you use whether HD traffic will be very beneficial.

Funnily I have been on a truck (main) road, the A737, testing TomTom with a friend during peak travel times about a year ago and they were the most accurate but retreiving the data using their map was so slow and hard to use that we decided it could not be used.

Since we now know that TomTom are providing data to AA, a quick look at he AA traffic map of UK shows lots of disruption in England but nothing in Scotland, Wales or NI.
Routing from Lochcarron to Stromeferry on AA website results in a trip of 11 miles and 20 minutes. The real - on road situation is that the road is closed and a diversion of 120+ miles is current. The deterioration of information accuracy continues.
I am not a member of AA - if anyone here is they might like to log a complaint about lack of accuracy?

Thanks

Had an interesting reply from TomTom...

I've asked them several times now if they use TrafficScotland and TrafficWales for traffic info and they have never replied.

On the last time of asking they have said:
"For this can I request you to please call us so that we can troubleshoot over the phone to resolve your query in the quickest and most effective way?

Sounds like whatever they have to say, the don't want to put it in writing. Confused
