hi... I'm new to the forum... Yesterday I bought a navman n20 and I was surfing the net for a speed camera database for my new navman, since the navman database is just a little expensive... and this website came up... I was wondering if this database is good and if there are any problems to install it on the navman... I would also like to know if there is a way to make the GPS show the speed limit while going through a camera...

thank you...

ps: does this database only include the speeding cameras in the UK or in the whole of Europe?

Looking at the download page the NavMan N-Range is listed as supported.

Here are the instructions - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-navman-icn.php

There are databases for the UK and Europe.

Yes the database is very good. Not sure about your Sat Nav specifically but as far as i know most Sat Navs will indicate the cameras speed limit somehow.

Neither does my Garmin i3 normally. However when i go near a camera i get an alert that reads something like

GATSO: 12345@40

Where GATSO is the camera type, 12345 is the camera number in the database and 40 is the speed limit it is set to.

However i'm not sure what the N20 will display.

If you install the Pocket GPS World Speed Camera Database on the Navman device you will get the following when encountering a camera:

Note the text at the bottom of the screen detailing the distance to go, type and speed.

If you install both the Pocket GPS World Speed Camera Database AND the Navman offering you will be presented with the following display:

Note the warning has defaulted to the Navman speed camera and NOT the PGPSW camera icon (I will leave you to guess which one is in the correct location) - just a distance to go is offered in this mode as the device ignores the Custom POI, defaulting to the Navman database (unless it is disabled).

If you install just the Navman database you will be presented with the following:

No indication of speed or camera type.

Sorry there is no single location used for the screen shots they are just a few I have collected recently, the choice is yours in terms of what to install, but the Navman loaded with the PGPSW database (Speed Zoned) will offer what you want as depicted in the first screen shot above - Mike

Also i forgot the Speed Zoned database contains icons with the speed on but depending on the size of the screen, the distance from your driving position and your eye sight these may or may not be useful.... as Mike shows above.

Well spotted - I missed pointing that one out, the PGPSW speed camera icon is the one containing the 30 (which is the speed limit) - the big yellow box is the Navman icon, which is roughly in the correct position (400 feet out in one of the screen shots above) - Mike

i've got another question... since the navman software doesnt include the speed limits do I have to delete it and then install the PGPSW speed camera or can I just istall the PGPSW software?

ps: does the PGPSW speed camera software alert moving cameras or not?

The latest release cover the following

Quote:
PocketGPSWorld.com Speed Camera Database Version 5.064 18 Jun 07

There are a total of 11,060 verified cameras in the database and 1,242 unverified mobile sites (total combined: 12,303).

3,910 Gatso/Monitron/Truvelo/RedSpeed,
5,887 Mobiles,
5 Temporary,
258 Specs and 999 Redlight Cameras.

Also another advantage is that if you are the first to submit a NEW, FIXED position camera (that is then verified) you will be awarded a free lifetime subsciption, if you have a current subscription.

You may be able to remove the Navman database - Mike might know.
