Hi Folks
I've just got TomTom5 and it installed great on my Acer n35. My problem is that I cannot find Com port 8 for my GPS. It gives me four or five to choose from, but the only com port is 3.
It says on the tomtom site that it works with Acer n35. Has anyone got around this problem?
Thanks

In GPS setup for the Acer n35 select Other Cable NMEA GPS and then Baud Rate 57600 and GPS on Navagator and all will work for you
Have Fun |

Have you tried the settings as I posted above?
It was the best settings for mine. It did take about 5 mins for the first time sat fix.

I'm getting a very similar problem on my N35. Whilst navigating, generally during voice commands (but not exclusively), it locks up and the map disappears or parts of the screen grey out (like when there is no satelite signal). Usually the only solution is a restart.
It seems to occur fairly randomly. I've tried all the options currently listed in the thread with no resolution.
Any futher ideas / tips would be greatly appreciated. |

Still no luck
In TT5 :
I can choose other cable GPS
Can only change baud rate (NOT COM port) - When I press confirm a new screen appears where I can se it is looking on COM 3
ACER N35:
The doc. says GPS uses COM8
I've tried to leave it for 'bout 10 min but still same situation
If I use VITO Navigator the Vito sw finds the GPS on COM8
So I need
a) tool to tell ACER N35 that I want to have the GPS on COM3
or
b) some way of telling TT5 that the GPS is on COM8
Any suggestions ? |

i installed tt5 on n35 yesterday with a 512mb sd card.
i set gps as other gps nmea and then rate set at highest. seem to take ages.
then reduced the rate to 9200 so far so good. can detect gps even indoors. 4-5 sats with in few minutes.
however proposed field trial did not occur due to last minute cancellation.
let u know. |

hi:
i took it for a field test today.
two big problems!!!
first is acer is very very slooooooow with tt5 ( used destinator b4!!)
it seem to take ages to simple things.
route calculation takes ages. (whereas destinator took few seconds to 1 -2 minutes) i am not talking 100+ miles journeys.. but really short ones like 5 miles!!
also my position on the map doesnot advance quick enough!! at least 200-500 yards behind!! this is not again on a busy town but out of town local tesco!!
i increased the baud rate by one step seem nothing happens!!!
any one has got ideas |

:D
hi all acer people:
i think theoritically acer should work fine with tt5!!
this is because tt5 is sold with hp1710 and works fine!!! hp 1710 has spec wise poorer outlook than acern35!
.. else where i have posted to ask memebers about that combination.
though i donot have a BIG response so far it appears that combo is fine...
now the acer n35 has
64MB RAM, 32 MB flash ROM
266MHz processer
Specifications - HP iPAQ 1710
- Memory: 25MB RAM (25MB SDRAM, 25MB Flash ROM
- Processor: 203MHz Samsung
having said that acer should do no worse than a hp1710 with tt5!!!
but acer seems to be slowed with tt5
anybody has better ideas?

The one thing that will slow ALL users of TTN5 is showing too many POI.
The map overlays have to be written to accommodate the extra information.
For Instance, there is no need to show Cams all the time for if you use the 'Warn when near POI' they will flash on to screen when near them as you have set in the warning. Try that with the other POIs that you want displayed. You may find that TTN5 works a lot faster _________________ Mystery
