Hi,

This is a plea really for any ideas.

I am running smart ST v2 pro on a rx3715 using a aktronix bluetooth gps receiver.

My problem relates to starting navman up. Navman will goto the white screen "loading maps" and then blank back (failing to start ) to the ipaq today screen instead of continuing to the license agreement page. The only way i have found to resolve this issue is to hard reset and re-load everything back on. Any number of soft resets does not work.

I have persued a course of trial and error and have isolated a way to avoid this ie close the gps port within navman before shutting the program down. However, if the ipaq turns off on its own or i forget to close the GPS port the only way to ever get navman to run again is to hard reset.

Things i have tried to avoid this are routing the gps signal through GPS gate, using a restore point to a time when navman would load
however neither these have worked. Each time you need to hard reset.

I have spoken to navman tech helpline and they think its probably because im using a third party bluetooth receiver and dont have any further suggestions to avoid the problem.

At the moment im stuck and am planning to be very careful with using smart ST v2 but its a concern to have to hard reset if i forget or the ipaq turns itself off. Navman must be saving this port setting somewhere and if i could isolate it i could save a backup of the file and copy it back across if if navman shuts down incorrectly. So any suggestions anyone?? I have scoured this forum but havent found anyone with a similar problem.

Many thanks!!

Adam

I have seen similiar behaviour under low memory conditions, but your machine should have plenty of RAM available. Can you verify?

I will try, but I have installed smart st onto the ipaq file store and not onto the sd card.

Do you have any ideas about there smart st would save its gps settings when it is closed down so I could continue along a backup route?

Many thanks for your ideas in the meantime!!

I thought SmartST would only work properly if it was installed to Main Memory. Did you tell Navman that you'd installed to the FileStore?

ah ha really?? I didnt tell navman that.

however I seem to remember that I did try and install it to the main memory but it appeared that it still put it in the file store. perhaps I did it wrong, ill try it again.

Many thanks

Before you attempt a reinstall you may need to manually remove the ".uninstall" file - it contains information about which files were installed and where. If that file specifies storage card then suubsequent installs will go to the same location.

I had problems with SmartST V 2. too. Where-ever you install it, it installs a set of folders in the ipaq non volatile store area. when you run SmartST it transfers data into these folders.

I discovered it wouldn't run when I had two large backup files in the filestore. I deleated them and it was fine. I think you may not have enough memory if it is installed in filestore and is also trying to run in there.

I'm running it on a hx 2755 with 128mb
