I have found a problem when planning a route and using the ‘avoid certain roads’ program.

When planning a route to Birmingham ( somewhere I have to visit twice a year) that suggested by TTN 2 always takes me down the M6 which means that to get to my destination on the A38 I have to travel though the city centre, which usually takes a considerable time. My normal route takes me though Bromsgrove and works out less than a mile longer than that suggested by TTN2 and in practical terms is much quicker. When I try to use the ‘avoid M6' It is not listed as one of those that can be avoided. Those listed are roads close to home which cannot be missed including the road that passes the front of my property and which I HAVE to drive on. I have not tried this in practice because it would involve a totally different route from the beginning, and cannot be changed half way.

Has anybody else found this problem - or more importantly a work around? Or have I missed something?

Nigel,

You could try setting an Avoid Area on part of the M6 as follows. In map view zoom in on a section of the M6 that you would like to avoid. Then select "Avoid area" under the "Tools" menu. Drag the corners of the box to reduce its size and touch on OK. Now try setting a route, you will notice that it says "using avoids" on the screen when the route is being planned. To remove an "avoid area" touch the X (cross) associated with the area.

Using avoids does not always produce a sensible route as TomTom sometimes does a local diversion!

Many thanks I'll try that. I thought there might be a fix. Very much appreciated
