Hi, i have just got the tom tom pack with the Ipaq rx1710 PDA. i have set it up all ok, but when setting up the home location it does not have my road or even estate in the map!! (My house / estate is only 2 years old).
Can you update the map for new roads? I cant see a way on the tomtom site.
Thank You
Jamie. |

Hi parapilot,
If you have the TomTom HP Navigation pack that included an iPAQ 1710 then you don’t have TomTom Navigator 3. You are actually running maps much younger than those of us with TTNav3. ;)
The only way to get updated maps is to buy the next version. Keep watching this website for news from CeBIT. You may get some good news about an update. This is because CeBIT is the show where TomTom traditionally announces new versions.

Thanks Privateer,
Interesting. If i buy tomtom 3 can i wipe the sd card / programs and start fresh with TT3? even though its the HP 1710 kit, and a tomtom labled sd card? Is there any diference to the software? or is it just more up to date maps?
I also notice i cant use some of the speed camera setups with this HP nav kit. I got the speed camera database in, and set up warnings for POI, but checkpoint wont work.
I'm just about to try the postcode DB
Thanks

The position on Navigator 5 upgrades is unclear - the developing situation is described here. One of the original TomTom press releases in English apparently contained an error.
With Navigator 5 forthcoming, there's no point buying Navigator 3 as you already have Navigator 2004 HP Edition. Navigator 3 contains older maps that Navigator 2004 HP Edition.
Even if your free Navigator 5 upgrade as a Navigator 2004 owner is 'software only', you'll get most if not all of the features that aren't in your Navigator 2004 software but are in Navigator 3 (itineraries, route demonstration, compass, and - assuming that the maps have the right data - the possibility of subscribing to TomTom Plus).

The TomTom HP Navigation 2004 package won’t accept any add-on applications. Therefore CheckPOInt won’t work with it. Use your built-in Proximity Alerts instead.
For further information on the camera database, please have a read of the beginners guide to the PocketGPSWorld camera database.

Well, don't know if this has been discussed before, but those of us who are sticked with the TT nav 3.07 maps, could easily upgrade to the HP bundle maps (TT 4.4).
There're just a few updates anyway, but it may be worth..
I did it for my Italy map and it's working flawlessly.
Here's how to proceed:
0) Have a friend who has a HP/TT bundle
1) Launch the Setup and install the TT 4.4 maps on the desktop PC hard disk
2) Delete every file in your map directory on your PPC memory card (you may wish to make a backup before this) **EXCEPT** the .mid file.
3) Copy the map files from the PC HDD to the PPC maps directory **EXCEPT** the .mid file.
4) Rename (or delete) the "TomTom Navigator Settings" directory contained into "My Documents" in the PPC.
5) Launch TT navigator .. et voilà :P
The only drawback is that you'll lose all of your settings and favourites.
Please note that this is a "hack" and that is not supported or documented in any way by the TomTom company.
Hope that this will help someone..
Respect,
MeAN[/b] |

Sure it was far from my intention to break any written or unwritten rule.
Should the administrators find the post to be inopportune, their intervention will be welcome.
IMHO anyway, this seems to me a tiny tiny thing: having a licensed copy of TT 3, this "hack" won't harm TT company at all, provided that the Navigator 2004 is not available as a stand alone product and the next arrive ot the Navigator 2005.
Anyway, as said, please wipe the post out if you have a different opinion.
Respect,
MeAN |
