Hi.

I read in this forum about problems charging the TTG from a cigarette lighter in the car. I had no problems charging mine for some time, but I changed cars last week and have not used it in this car. This car does not have a cigarette lighter but a power outlet instead. It says on there 12v-10 amp. I contacted TTG support who said :

“The GO is intended to be powered via convential cigarette lighter socket .
We are not permitted to support or give advice on alternative methods of powering the unit. We suggest that you contact a qualified auto-electrician for further advice”

I telephoned an auto elec and he said what’s a TomTom Go ?

Can somebody help. It’s a Jaguar X type with a factory fitted power outlet in place of the cigarette lighter.

Thanks

That'll work just as well. The socket differs only slightly in that it won't actually accept a cigarette lighter, it is intended to accept 12v accessories that use a standard cigarette lighter plug.

It's becoming the norm now for cars to have a 12v accessory socket instead of a cigarette lighter socket, but for charging purposes they are one and the same.

Just to add, 10amp is the MAX load of the socket. So you can run several accessories, as long as the max load doesn't exceed the 10 amps.

Some are powered even if the cars keys are taken out the lock.

I have a cigarette lighter and accessory socket, I power my TTG from the cigarette lighter and my iPod from the accessory socket.
