Is there some software that either can playback or analyze tomtom gps logs (pgl files)?
I record my routes every day but I can't view the data unless I play it through TomTom which is slow and useless to me! |

PGL files are simple text - rename them from PGL to TXT and use them with any program that accepts NMEA data _________________ Lutz

As Lutz says, the log files are just the raw input from your GPS, with about five lines of header on the front. They're in NMEA mode if your GPS is in NMEA mode, or SiRF binary if your GPS is in SiRF binary mode.
If you rename them to .txt and open them in Notepad, you'll see what I mean.

Use Oldie's LogConverter program, available in the download section of this site, to display the recorded route.
Extracted from the ReadMe file:
"Program name: LogConverter v1.04
Purpose: LogConverter can be used to show the track stored in a TomTom Navigator Log file by converting it to a format suitable for display in a mapping program on a PC, or by converting it to a TomTom POI overlay for display in Navigator on a PocketPC.
Installation: Unzip the files LogConverter.exe, LogConverter.hlp, MakeOV2_v1-1.exe and poi_track.bmp into the same directory and create a Shortcut on the Windows Desktop to run the program. Right click on the Shortcut icon and select Properties. On the Shortcut Tab edit the Start in: field to point to the directory that will be used by default when running the program.
Replace the bitmap in the file poi_track.bmp with your preferred symbol. It will be used for any newly created overlay files.
Compatibilty: Tested on a Windows XP Home edition computer.
NB. LogConverter is a Microsoft Windows program which runs the TomTom command line program MakeOV2 to create TTN POI overlay files (.ov2). Do not substitute a later version of this program as it may not work with LogConverter.
MakeOV2.exe is the free command line conversion utility made available on the TomTom website.
Version 1.04 $GPGGA NMEA records that have the Receiver Mode field blank or zero will be ignored as this indicates that a GPS fix is not available. All positional data are now extracted from the $GPGGA records. Buttons added for selection of output file formaExt.
Version 1.03 reads Course and Speed data from the NMEA $GPRMC records as well as $GPVTG records as the latter are not always present in a log file." |
