We have a Mitac Mio 168 with TomTom. I decided to update to version 3.07 from their website. I forgot to remove the SD card while I was updating.
Everything seemed to have worked fine. I turned the PPC off, and then decided later in the evening to re-connect to have a got at installing the postcode lookup plugin.
My laptop would not recognise that the PPC was even connected. Very strange I thought, as this had not happened before.
I've checked the cables
Changed which USB port I was using
Changed computers
Soft re-set the Mio
Hard reset (I think), there is a little switch on the back labelled off and on
The Mio is totally back to original out of the box settings, but ActiveSync still will not find it.
Any ideas? |

You may be looking at the wrong end.
Your PC may have ActiveSync 3.7.1 installed which is known to be flaky. Have you tried to reboot your PC? _________________ Lutz

I do have ActiveSync 3.7.1 installed on both the machines I tested the PPC with. I rebooted both machines between attempts |

Hi,
You may need to delete the partnerships and start from scratch. As you’ve done a hard reset of your Mitac Mio 168, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Try this first:
Ensure that you’ve set the Device ID (name):
Start | Settings | System | About | Device ID
Soft reset PPC
Connect PPC to PC via cradle/synchronisation lead and then redo the partnership set-up.
If the above doesn't work try this:
Remove you Mitac Mio 168 from the cradle/synchronisation lead.
In MS ActiveSync:
File | Mobile Device (select the name of the PPC)
File | Delete Partnership
Repeat until no Partnerships left.
Then repeat the following:
Ensure that you’ve set the Device ID (name):
Start | Settings | System | About | Device ID
Soft reset PPC
Connect PPC to PC via cradle/synchronisation lead and then redo the partnership set-up.

Thanks for the tips. I've tried all of the suggestions, and no luck so far.
There are no partnerships present in ActiveSync.
The PPC is called Pocket_PC, I added a description "test"
Turn the PC on
Turn the PPC on
Connect lead
Nothing happens
Load up ActiveSync, a little wizard starts and searches for mobile devices
It says USB is available but does not find a device.
I'm struggling to find anything else to try before asking for an RMA.
Thanks again ppl |

I've tried a laptop and my desktop PCs.
I do not have another sync cable, and we do not have a craddle. I cannot see anything wrong with the cable we have, or the connector on the PPC.
I think I may just have to RMA this one |

Just before RMAing - there's actually two versions of ActiveSync 3.7.1. The earlier build 3244 has various problems. The later build 4034 is supposed to fix the problems, and is the only option for those of us with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition devices.
If you're on build 3244 (check using Help -> About Microsoft ActiveSync), I suggest you download ActiveSync 3.7.1 from the Microsoft web site - which will be build 4034 - and upgrade.

Problem found. It was a dodgy cable. My dad suddenly produced a spare that has allowed us to continue our SatNav fun.
If only he could have found that cable before........ |
