The PocketGPSWorld Safety Camera Database has been updated and contains lots of new cameras including a new mobile category.

As always you can download this from here or via POI-Sync. Remember to add the new category in POI-Sync for the Mobile Cameras file if you are wanting support for mobile cameras as these have now been split away from the main central GATSO database.

Great to have another update. Manay thanks.

However, im still suffering from the same problem as last time. Which is...

On my home PC i cant download the new file. i still get the contents of the old zip file. Also using POIEdit i have a similar problem. It doesnt download the new XML file so it doesnt see the new mobile file.

Ive tried clearing the cache and history in IE as well as running window washer but still nothing.

So then i connect my work laptop to the home wireless network and it all works. both zip file and POIEdit are happy. All downloaded ok. not even necessary to clear the cahe!

Any one got any ideas?

Given your laptop works this has to be a local IE cache issue unless you run other proxy caching software or are part of a local area network that employs caching.

Flush the cache by deleting all temporary internet files, set the file cache to 50mb or so and then exit and restart IE.

Perform a file search for the Safety Camera database .zip (search Hidden files also) and delete and that are identified.

Then re-download and report back Smile

Well.... i tried all that you mentioned. i even changed the option in IE to check for a newer page each time. I deleted the temporary intyernet files, i changed the cache size, i deleted all ofline content, isearched the hard disk (hidden files visible) and deleted all copies of the file.

rebooted

still didnt work!

finally searched the registry and found a list of downloaded files.

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\comdlg32\opensaveMRU\*

and saw the entry for the zip file. i deleted it and hey presto ...it worked.

can anyone tell me the correct way to do that Laughing Out Loud

Thanks for the update.

Just one question though, not sure how popular these cameras are though but do you have plans to have a section for the Truvelo cameras?

Thumbs Up

Truvelo sites are already part of the Gatso database. Although they face the driver they are essentially fixed Speed Camera installations and so we thought it best to include them in that database.

The only caveat is that because they face the vehicle unlike Gatso which faces the rear of the vehicle you need to ensure your alert is set to give you sufficient warning before you enter the cameras trigger zone which will of course be before you reach the actual camera.

I cannot download any new data other than last months update (29th Sept 2004). Is the link working OK?

I should add that the difference between my 2 mschines is that the one that works is XP Professonal SP1 and the one that doesnt work without the hack above is XP Professional SP2

I have XP SP2 which performs without errors so I would discount that as causing your problem.

Who is your ISP?
It is not uncommon for certain ISP's to cache websites to speed up your browsing experience.

**edit**

But then again it seems strange that your laptop can download when connected to the same network (same ISP?).

In the past when I have experienced this phenomenon I have used an alternative browser such as Netscape to flush the new pages through.

I must admit im stumped by it really.

It has to be the PC config somewhere. but i assumed that using window washer to delete everything as well as manually searching the PC to delete any existing files would have done it.

The PC was recently completely re-installed as i had a new hard disk and motherboard.

Everytime i tried to download it it seemed to be working but always reported the file size as 172K. most odd!

I even tried POIEdit but this didnt even see the new XML file!

So i connected the company laptop using WiFi to the same network and it just worked without anything at all!

must be some wierd registry key set to make life difficult!
