Had my old TT GO 500 for years now. Still works very well, (with my life membership PGPSW ov2 file speed cams).

But of course haven't been able to update the map on it for several years.

So, thinking about a new TomTom, either Premium; Essential or Basic.

But now I get the impression on the forums here, that new TomToms won't accept PGPSW ov2 file speed cams (or other ov2 POI).

Is this correct? If so, is there any way possible to get one of the new TomToms to accept said files please. Or is there any advanced hint that TomTom may add this option back in the (near?) future?

(Know that TomToms own speed cams are mostly out of date).

If TomTom doesn't accept PGPSW speed cams, do the new Garmin models accept your files still.

Many thanks in advance.

All Garmins work with the PGPSW database.

TomTom still advertise POI's but they have stopped POI's with advance or proximity warnings for many years now.
You use TT's own database or none at all.

Thanks Kremmen.
Just as I thought. The proximity warnings, along with with PGPSW ov2 files, were one of the things I liked best about the old TomToms.

Will have to look closely at Garmin now to decide whether to spend that sort of money, or stick with my trusty TT Go500, that must admit I'm very attached to.
Like I said, still works just as well as ever. The very few anomalies on the old maps aren't that much of a drawback to be honest.

Thanks again.

I could suggest an analogy here with Microsoft Windows.

Win XP is a joy to use (in my opinion). I still use it extensively on one of my (powerful) PCs for everyday things.
Despite constant warnings about it's vulnerability to viruses and the like, I have had no problems like that for as long as I can remember.

On the other hand, I have had to install Win10 on my other PC in order to be able to play the latest Total War game.
I find Win10 a pain in the -rse to use, (apart from playing the game).

Doing almost anything in Win10 is like swimming through treacle!
Microsoft have made things worse by changing things for no obvious reason, and left out many useful things that were (are) in XP.

Quite similar to what TomTom appear to have done with their newer sat navs!

You’re lucky. I moved from windows to Mac, but because I had three programs I loved, I installed Parallels on the Mac, with Win XP, which was a decent version of windows. All was well until Parallels wouldn’t keep up with Mac and refused to upgrade with Win XP. I have an ancient laptop running Win 7 Home which runs those programs, but I need to reserve half a day to fire it up and pause for every click to react. My XP disk has been reinstalled so many times the security wouldn’t let it go on another machine. I bought a new laptop with Win 10 - I couldn’t work out how to work it, but when somebody helped me, I found that the programs would not work in Win10. So I gave the stupid win10 laptop away.

Grrrr all round.
