Yes I know the distance quoted must be wrong. (I had already spotted b33's distance / time disrepancy).

I was trying to respond to your point that
Quote:
I still find it hard to believe that if basecamp has you at 80 over that stretch that any of your instantaneous speeds would have been as high as 86
.

My point is that the Basecamp [inaccurate] average leg speed could be wrong by up to 5%, say 84 kph. In which case an instantaneous reading of 86 kph does not seem so improbable.

Dales.

I didn't want to critisise Basecamp but that was my thoughts about using it in this way. I don't think it's the kiddie for the job.

Yep, BC was originally set up to be used for handheld GPS so it's maximised for that, while it can now handle many more devices it won't always produce the expected result

Been busy hence late follow up.

To correct my figures. The 25 metre gap I quoted was a 'top of my head' figure and I would have been further back. I avoid sitting up the chuff of trucks 'cos I've driven too many with a car in the blind spot.

Basecamp figures are obviously rounded and shows the leg with camera as
357m - 16 seconds - average 80 kph.....(80.3 kph)

The preceding leg was
341m - 15secs - average 82 kph.... (81.8 kph)

The following leg was
377m - 17secs - average 80 kph....(79.9 kph)

average over the 3 legs 80.6 kph

Is the maths wrong?

I'll pay up -and there are no points to lose

"Is the maths wrong?" Not this time. But 86 seems to be stretching reality a bit doesn't it? Mad

That's my view as I know I was cruising on the 80 mark as was the truck in front. Wonder if that got flashed?

I can submit a written challenge together with a full price penalty 68 as deposit. It gets reviewed by a judge and the penalty is either upheld or dismissed with deposit returned. All seems very civilised. However, I've found some cases where the original certification for the cameras had been requested and could not be produced as required by law - case dismissed. My French ain't that good although I could send in the basecamp bumph and see what results - it's almost worth 68

Hi b33jay, you mentioned in an earlier post that you had CamerAlert running on your phone. I don't suppose that it wss set to log your trip at the time that you were flashed? Settings/Advanced/Record Trip.
From memory, it records your speed and location every few meters /seconds and you csn export the log as a gpx file. Download it twice, examine one copy, keep the other pristine.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll check my phone app. One problem is whether the times of satnav and camera are coincident. The ticket states 13.12 and gives a precise location. Unfortunately, the Garmin Basecamp trip log it actually shows the camera location and this is illegal in France so I couldn't use it to support my challenge. Finally, as in the UK, unless there is incontrovertible technical evidence that the camera was faulty a challenge is going nowhere.
