Police are gearing up to target motorists who think they can drink and drive with immunity.

Roadside breath tests are 50% higher in June as the annual crackdown commences with over 36,000 drivers tested in the last year for which figures are available, 2017. A disappointing one in ten test positive.

“The police always focus on June as, statistically, it’s a drink drive hotspot,” comments Hunter Abbott, Managing Director of breathalyser firm AlcoSense Laboratories. “With warmer weather, sporting events and barbeques, June is a month when motorists are more likely to unintentionally drink drive the morning after socialising - posing a risk to themselves and other road users.”

We have reviewed an AlcoSense Excel and found it superb, if you're ever unsure if you are legal to drive the day after then a breathalyser could save your licence.

It goes without saying that drinking and driving is a complete no, no. So, avoid it, but how? For me AlcoSense was the way, but do follow their guidance closely. Don't expect realistic results without giving the machine a chance.

Of course the best way is to get Des* to drive you home. In any case, why not get an AlcoSense device just in case. It costs next to nothing in comparison to a conviction, let alone anything worse.

*(Des)ignated driver, for those who haven't seen the old advert.

I suspect that the majority of drink drivers are 'deliberate', knowing full well that they are over the limit.
The responsible driver who would buy one of these devices is a lot more likely to moderate his drinking, or get a Das* to drive anyway.

I don't see how "AlcoSense is the way". Does it somehow get rid of the alcohol?

What is to be done if you are over the limit and the sole driver of your vehicle and 20 miles from home? Drive "carefully"?
