Hi Folks,
I've just bought a Jaguar XJ 2012 and the built-in satnav doesn't have speed camera data. I notice that the Jaguar XF is in the list of supported cars but not the XJ. Any thoughts on how I can get speed camera supported for my car using CameraAlert?

Thanks in advance

Hi Solihull,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

CamerAlert is a standalone app for a smartphone (either iPhone or Android). Once you're a subscriber you can load the data via WiFi or even mobile data and always have the latest version of the database.

CamerAlert can either display a list of nearest known cameras (if any) which doesn't take any mobile data or it can display a map which does take mobile data. You have the option of: list, map only when near a camera, or map all of the time.

The easiest option is to have your smartphone running CamerAlert displaying just a list and relying on audio alerts from your smartphone.

If you do want CamerAlert on the screen on your Jaguar then that depends on whether it's possible to connect your smartphone to your car's system so that the car mirrors the display from your smartphone.

Are you able to connect your smartphone to your car's system so that the screen is mirrored and the sound goes through your car's speakers?

Regards,

One of the slight problems her is that 'the powers that be' decided to call both the app and the POI camera database the same thing.
So the OP could possibly be asking how he can load the camera database onto his Jag system.

These sort of queries are best asked of Jag owners:

At least you will get a whole bunch of Jag owners who may or may not have been able to install the cam database on their built in satnavs.

Well spotted M8, I've not noticed that until you said. I've been here so long (and well before CamerAlert was even thought of) that I just think of the database as the (PGPSW Camera database) and CamerAlert as just the app that runs it on a smartphone - however looking to the right-hand side of the web page and I can see the "advert" to "download the CamerAlert Database"! Evil or Very Mad

So Solihull, I apologise for the confusion if you want the database on your Jag's navigation system! Embarassed

Unfortunately, the built-in SatNav systems tend to have poor functionality and the newer ones tend not to accept POIs and if they do accept POIs then the systems don't have proximity alerting functionality.

As Kremmen has mentioned, it's best to ask on a Jaguar forum.

Regards,

Just to clear up confusion over the ambiguous naming of the PGPSW (POI) camera database and the CamerAlert smartphone app, what exactly is it you are trying to do?
Is it what I said or what Privateer said?

Hi - I'm trying to add the speed camera alerts to the satnav fitted to the car. Sorry about any confusion.

No problem. It is confusing, especially to newbies since the name of the database was made the same as the 'new' app.
