The same set of average speed cameras has caught a hapless driver speeding fourteen times. It isn't clear why they were caught so often, but it's assumed that many motorists still don't understand how average cameras work.
The cameras, on Marine Parade, Brighton, only came into action at the end of May this year and were the first permanent (as opposed to road-works) average speed cameras in East Sussex.
Between May and the first week of August, over 1,800 vehicles have been recorded at speeds in excess of 36mph on the road, including one motorist at 63mph.
Sussex Safer Roads Partnership commented: "The overall compliance is in excess of 99.6 per cent of vehicle total movements which we hope will further improve in the future but does show the vast majority of road users are aware of and comply with the scheme. The new schemes will be subject to a review by the partnership to establish their effectiveness in reducing collisions."

That'll be why they put them there, too many boy racers.
No doubt they speed then slow down for each camera, which proves the above point that drivers don't understand them.
We've still got one pair, pier end, waiting for verification, which is on my list for 3 weeks time. _________________ Satnav:

I am continually amazed when driving through a section of 'smart' motorway that has its variable speed limit displayed, or a section of SPECS average speed motorway, to be passed by drivers driving in excess of that limit, often well in excess. Either they know something I don't, or will have a surprise NIP dropping through their letterbox soon. Ignorance may be bliss but is no excuse.
