It is my intention to hard wire my 6100, so ordered a TomTom data cable on Amazon to enable me to update it.
It shows the 6100 as connected and the battery icon shows it is charging. However, it cannot download the updates. I know the manual clearly states that a non genuine TomTom data cable may not work. Could someone explain why before ordering a genuine TomTom cable.
The cable only costs £0.99 plus postage, so I am not upset and await any advice before contacting the suppliers.
Thanks. |

For whatever reason, as you've found, any generic usb cable is sufficient for charging the device but the wiring of the cable is not sufficient to pass the data.
Some TomTom devices are more susceptible than others to demands for a true TT cable. _________________ David |

Problem now resolved.
Unfortunately the suppliers did not reply to my polite request for help. |

I have NO idea. Whilst it would not download "data" when first purchased, I tried again recently and it works. I have done some recent updates and it has worked each time. |
