Posting here as the speed can section is closed to open questions.

Before taking the plunge I would like to know what to expect - not the data but the warnings.

I have a Garmin 3598 and a database that shows the camera location as a standard speed limit sign on the map at the location. I then get a clear voice warning that repeats if I am going too fast. The warning is in good time.

What can. I see on the Pocket World database? What form is the audible warning?

Impossible really to say as it's very customisable if you use Kremmens program. You can change icon size, use your own if you want, set whether you only get one or multiple warnings, how far in advance, whether you have over speed warnings or not, change the spoken announcements etc etc. The world as they say is your oyster Wink

Info on Kremmens program is here

Try THIS on for size then.
And what's a speed can anyway. Is it a new type of container for fast food?

Right, thank you for that. I have read the link and it certainly looks fairly straightforward. What deters me though is the amount of convsrsie and modification required. Is the personalisation a one off or requjired each time?

Apart from the lack of English languay my present warner is a simple plug in and run, POI Loader and go.

One off. It's a bit fiddly to set up, but once you have set the parameters to your liking, the program remembers them. You then just have to update the camera data (not the voices and icons) and run the prog. Then run POI Loader.
The benefits vastly outweigh the initial setting up nausea.

M8TJT,

Yoiu say you can make various settings such as speed cam icoknsy and voices, is that right? What form does the voice warning take?

Is or like a German (English) one that warned of the camera followed by"slow down, you are exceeding the speed limit". At least my present one nags in German again until you slow down - better than a Gong.

I'll leave Kremmen to answer that as he's the expert. The spoken alert can be pretty much what you want it to be within reason. Deffo no 'Slow down' message.
Don't forget that there are two totally different types of speed warning.
1. Is for the local road speed limit that is nothing to do with cameras. The data for this is embedded in the map and you can set it to warn (or not* if the device detects that you are exceding the local road speed limit.
2. Is for speed cameras. The data for these warnings is contained in the speed camera database. It will warn you that you are approaching a camera and the speed that the database thinks the camera traps at. It also can warn you if you are exceeding the camera trap speed as you approach it if going at excess speed. This latter warning can be switched off in Kremmen's program. THis speed warning has nothing to do with the map speed data, although, hoprfully, they should agree in most cases except when either the cam speed or the road speed has been wrongly recorded.

The vocal speed warnings in the PGPSW database only make a noise when there is a camera in your proximity.

The only overspeed warning on the native Garmin is the highly annoying repetetive bong that is activated when you are over the Garmin map data speed.

My program comes with an Overspeed.wav file that you can link to a separate overspeed category so if you haven't slowed down after the approach warning then it will tell you off with a different message, repeatedly.

More detail is in the .htm manual when you download the GPX Converter. Plus there are a few posts here already that go into more detail.
