finally got the new replacement and guess what it does exactly the same. after about 4 miles it shuts down without any warning. It then reboots and you then agree and goes into the where you want to go for about 2 seconds and reboots, which repeats over and over . They have offered to give me my money back which I might consider,
It is fully charged up , so that is not the issue , Also I have noticed that if I unplug it from the battery lead it seems to be ok, well for about 9 - 10 miles , I will check this tomorrow.
I did ring up Garmin in Southampton and they told me that they have never come across this before and suggest that I do a " master reset" likewise they have offered to change it.
any help would be greatly appreciated. |

No I Updated it, but it certainly is Bizarre really weird about the power cable, wondered if it has something to do with the built in Aerial? |

Ah
Some updates do indeed recycle the unit a few times. The new regime also requires you to plug the unit back into the PC so GE can finalise the update procedure and register it so it knows where you are. _________________ DashCam:

Wonder if there is a problem with the power socket or lead. Was that replaced too or just the unit? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Checked the socket which is fine, They changed the whole unit , I had a complete new replacement. It is looking to me to be a power lead problem in that if I used the unit without the power lead it is fine, well it appears to be, also I have tried a route I planned and run it of a mains charger and as a trial so it went through the whole route with no shut downs at all. |

Just thinking elsewhere - So could it be the vehicle power socket? _________________ DashCam:

Hello,
Here is an update to my situation.
Well I have had three replacements of the Garmin Nuvi 2699LMT-d.
Each one of them has had exactly the same problem which is shutting of after 4 -5 miles and then rebooting which recycling over and over again.
I have phoned Garmin who has said that to tell PC World to send it back to them and they will have a look at it, although I do like this model I am getting a little fed up and never had any problems whatsoever with my tomtom go 910.
I am beginning to think that I have made a big mistake in that I should have got another TT.
Thanks
Sam |

I've never seen this problem before and just wonder if there's a fault with your power socket as for 3 devices to exhibit the same problem really means there must be a common cause outside the devices. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Agree totally. I can't believe 3 units would randomly reboot.
I reckon your vehicle power socket has a problem with a make and break connection or the Garmin plug isn't making a solid connection.
Maybe when stationary it's OK but on the move the vibration is just enough.
I had a similar issue on my car where a 12v USB plug wasn't quite deep enough.
My next test would be to get one of those power socket extensions or a splitter that does make a good connection although testing that is difficult. _________________ DashCam:

No that is not the problem as I have tried it in a couple of other cars with the same result, I like you thought that there must be some problem with my power socket, BUT the same socket was used with the second unit when I went up to Lincoln but using a usb mini to usb cable. which worked fine all the way there and back. I also tested the socket which was fine so the power socket is sound, anyway that doesn't allow for it to keep failing in other cars!!! all I can assume is that there must be a bad batch. |

Will be interesting to hear what the eventual outcome is. I assume since you refer to a bad batch you've had them replaced by the same retailer each time?
Again in all my time using Garmins and being involved in numerous Garmin forums, including their own, I've never heard of an issue like yours with so many apparently faulty units.
Please keep us posted. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Bizarrely some sockets are deeper than others or the plugs are shorter, one of the two. I had this problem with something else where the end contact would jiggle around as the car moved causing the power to go off.
Maplin do cheap 1 to 2 plug to sockets and I found that solved the problem. |
