Voice Alerts - Nuvi 2599

I cannot get Custom voice alerts to work on my new 2599. Which POI folder should they go in? I have Garmin/POI and a separate POI folder. The camera database works fine but only "boings" sound. I am confused.

Not sure why you have a Garmin/POI folder, the speed camera files should be in the separate POI folder.

Thanks for that. Both folders were there when I got it. Still won't work after removing Garmin/POI folder. I have an card coming, so I intend to start from scratch and put the files on that. Can you direct me to the video for installing voice alert files?

It's really worth while investigating kremmen's CSV to GPX converter. It gives a far better speedcam experience that the bog standard Garmin offering. kremmen has included a pretty good help file that steps through the processes required and is well worth the extra effort involved in learning how to use it. It's not that difficult, honestly. It just appears to be harder than it really is and once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake.

Whether you use CSV or GPX via the converter you don't need to confuse matters with a SD card.

POILoader puts the resultant .GPI file on the device in the correct place. If POILoader is not producing voice alerts then the problem is on the PC.

For sussamb. Tried a reload and found: 1. poiloader placed speedcams in Garmin/POI NOT POI. 2. Converted mp3 voice alert to Wav-failed to convert and load on POIloader. 3. Pgpsw cams work except for voice alerts. I am losing the will to live. Tomtom system was way easier.

POILoader will put the files where you want them, and I think defaults to the last location it used. They need to be in their own folder, not in Garmin. The reason the initial default is Garmin/POI is that it was originally designed/written for older Garmin devices, which have a different folder structure.

Can't help much with voice files as I don't use them, the Garmin 'bong' is enough for me to wake up and take note

You don't need to convert the MP3 to WAV. The WAV files are downloaded in the PGPSW zip package if you select that option.

For ease go for the Garmin POILoader UK Speed Zoned set.

Once unzipped, in the folder where you're unzipping to, you should have each camera type with 3 matching files.

One set for example is: (Gatso 20 MPH set)

pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.bmp
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.csv
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.wav

Next check that you have SOX.exe in the same folder where POIloader.exe is located.

That's it, job done, run POILoader.

Yippee it is working. It boiled down to sox.exe. I reloaded and it worksnow. Thanks for your expert help.

It would have likely have been because you had MP3 and not WAV audio files
