Ok, my XXL Classic series with 3.6 GB drive and full Europe 2.7 GB on, is very slow. Even slower now that at last map update I had a compulsory Navcore update to 9.540
Any ideas why ?
I have defragged the hard drive
Is there a hard drive upgrade for these ?
Its certainly noticeably slower than my 700 was , whether its installing software, doing a windows copy, or planning a route or finding an alternative route etc
Its fine once a route is planned |

Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds unless your model has a dedicated reset hole. _________________ David |

How about reducing the number of POI's "shown" and/or run clearflash.exe three times and/or delete mapsettings.cfg from you map folder |

Thanks
Only two POIs showing, although I may have too many overall
Ahh clear flash, not heard that mentioned for a few years
Mapsettings cfg, yes, thats an idea,
It has improved since the reset |

Are you aware that deleting that will delete all your favourites and settings? _________________ Dennis

Which is hardly a biggie if it gets your device running smoothly again |

But a biggie if it doesn't.
Save it to your computer before deleting so that you can re-instate it when/if deleting it makes no difference. |

Agreed, like any "deletes" save to PC first "just in case" |

I haven't done it
That would be a last resort
I did do a full copy the other day it took about an hour, which seems a long time to me ?? |

I dunno whether it's a long time - presumably it depends on the speed of read/write on the devices you're using. But I think maybe I'd feel disappointed if 4GB took an hour. _________________ Dennis

But, the strange thing is, my 700 with full Europe on, around 2.5GB at the time, didn't take that long, In fact was quite a bit quicker.
It had an 800x 8gb, Flash Drive hard drive
I am wondering if its something to do with the hard drive itself |

Let's face it, in my opinion the 700 was the very best that TomTom ever made, I suspect I might commit crimes to get hold of another one, my ideal would be to find a derelict shop full of unsold original 700s. What a dream! All that performance and functionality again! I'm drooling at the very thought. _________________ Dennis

I agree Dennis
A 700 with an XXL screen, would have been the dogs danglies |
