I'm looking for a standalone camera detector that can hopefully use the PGPSW database. My current car already has an inbuilt satnav and the phone mount is under the arm rest so using that is not really a go. Open to suggestions! TIA. |

If you search for "stand alone devices" you will find that there have been many posts on this subject. Indeed, PGPSW came close some years ago to producing their own
IMHO the Inforad K1/2 when, for an all too brief period, the PGPSW database was a great little device with it's simple beep alerts of upcoming cameras
I still dream of the day when PGPSW and Inforad cut a deal to manufacture "our own" branded hardware running "our own" software and db
I continue to dream .......... |

A PGPSW unit would certainly fit the bill! The ones I have been looking at are the Snooper Lynx GT and the Road Angel Gem. Not PGPSW compatable I don't think. Still hoping that there is something else out there though that I might have missed otherwise I'm tending towards the Snooper.
Thanks again folks. |

Thanks MaFt for the suggestion. I downloaded the app onto an old phone which I took out today for a quick test.
Pros: You can tie into the cars bluetooth and get the audible alerts. (Plus use of the PGPSW database).
Cons: I might be being picky with this but I find the app layout a wee bit hard to read on a phone screen. I would prefer something a bit easier to glance when you get an alert. A less detailed graphic option?
Early days though. I might get used to it!
Thanks again. |
