I am not sure if this is the correct page to ask this question so my apologies if incorrect, perhaps a moderator will move it if necessary.
I want to supplement my Garmin sat nav with a straight forward radar detector, something that beeps/flashes etc when approaching speed cameras. Not one where I have to pay a subscription and download data, I use applemac so limited anyway.
From Hong Kong and presumably made in China there are a mass of cheap detectors such as the Navigator A382. I tried a search on GPSworld but no luck so has anyone actually tried one of these cheap ones and if so ….comments please.
Are they any use or not ?
Thanks
Brian. |

Don't know about how well radar detectors work but radar is used less and less now for speedcams. Just don't fall for the old laser detector sales blurb. Laser devices measure your speed in fractions of a second. They can also detect when they are being jammed leading to a probable prosecution. |

Hi
By the time the detector has told you about the radar device ahead, you will most likely have been caught for speeding and laser cameras can get you from along way off. In both cases its too late.

Thanks.
Not really the nice policeman with his laser gun or the lovely mobile white van with funny windows that I was concerned about.
It is much more those beautiful yellow boxes on the poles at the side of the road. My satnav is not too good with them so was looking to reinforce the awareness angle.
I use an applemac so rather limited in any choice for the database download style hence the appeal of the 'good ole fashioned detector' !!!
Cheers

Don't bother with a inforad!!!!,
I have one and since they dropped pocketgps for there camera database they have become crap,
This is how rubbish there database is
they didn't even have the average speed cameras that was in the road works on the m25 for the past year .
You would be better off spending your cash on a satnav that is capatable with pocketsgps database . |
