It has taken several weeks of demolition work to erase the Belgrave Flyover from the Leicester skyline - but not so long to remove it from Google Maps.
Within hours of the completion of work to pull down the landmark, the road was removed from Google's online map of the city.
While the recent satellite view still shows the concrete structure in place, the road map has been updated to make sure motorists don't get any surprises.
City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby was impressed with the speed of the update.
He said: "That is astonishing. I shall go and check for myself and also see if my satnav has been updated."
The online map, at www.google.co.uk/maps, has proved Google is a step ahead of its rivals, Streetmap and Bing maps, which still showed the overpass in place yesterday.

Not surprised by this, having previously reported an incorrect street name a couple of months ago Google acknowleged and changed in two days, A incorrect street name notification to Teleatlas numerous times over the past 4-5 yrs still not changed

In 2008 I reported some incorrect mapping of closed roads in Liverpool, imagine my surprise when I got an acknowledgement from TeleAtlas almost 3 YEARS later. I'd forgotten all about them & given up on getting the maps altered, and whilst I didn't expect a turnaround quite as rapid as Google have demonstrated, neither did I expect in to run into almost 3 years Rolling Eyes

Don't forget they bought Waze so they'd have easily crowd-sourced those additions. Probably had a number of Waze users reporting the changes before they occurred. It happened near me recently too.

The benefits of crowd-sourcing are pretty clear. (also refers to speed cameras as well)

No doubt waze helps, but my original change input was before they purchased Waze, perhaps even street view helps, but at the end of the day you have to show respect to Google for the response which nobody else can match.

I submitted a correction to Google maps a couple of years ago. I received an email the following day and it was incorporated on the map two days later. The change was easily spotted on streetview.
