In a word, it's rubbish.

I'm glad I bought my car second hand and didn't have to pay factory prices for this piece of garbage. Off the forecourt (2 years old in '08), the satnav was broken within a day. The replacement is just as bad. It consistently crashes at the same point every time you drive on the M40. It only has 5 digit postcodes. HTF are you supposed to find an address with 5 digits. And updates apparently cost several hundred pounds!

Note, I've also tried a 1st gen iDrive satnav (Business Version) in a 1 series... Just as rubbish.

Would I pay ££ for a new BMW satnav? Not likely. I wish they'd just drop an iPad mini in the dash and put a copy of TomTom on it. That'd be about 1/4 of the cost and 10x the functionality and performance.

Yes I know it's 7 years old... But so is my TomTom Go720. That's 7 years old, cost about 1/10th of the price, is several times faster, has full 7 digit postcodes, map updates cost about £40 and it's as stable as a rock.

I can see that you are not very impressed then.

To be honest, I expected better... Especially since the retail price of these things is around £1500... (In fact I think the one I have was more like £3000 back in 2006).

It's like they treat it as a bit of a joke... Even when it was under warranty and crashing every journey, they just never really took it seriously. I'm just glad I didn't pay extra for the stupid thing.
