Message: Hello,
I am using CamerAlert connecting to an Audi A7 bluetooth system.
I use it so as the CamerAlert interrupts the radio (I think through the telephone system) and gives me a warning. It has worked fine with my two previous phones an HTC Wildfire and Apple iPhone 4, but I recently got an Samsung Galaxy S4 and it is now only interrupting the radio in the same way but not saying anything e.g. just a blank sound for about 10 secs.
I tested CamerAlert while connected and changed the warning type and when you do this it plays the warning through the car as per normal but again once you use it I just get the blank sound instead of the warning. I have tried to force the sound to maximum etc. Please could you look into this for me. |

I find your second paragraph a little confusing. In the first half you say it works 'as per normal', but in the second half you say you get a blank sound. Can you clarify this a bit. |

Hi,
I have been looking into this some more.
In essence when using like normal (while driving) it does not work, the stereo is interrupted but there is no warning sound. I have tried changing the sounds etc. but nothing seems to work.
The only time I have managed to get a sound out of the stereo is if I am stationary and in settings changing the sounds. In this case when you change a sound it will demos the new sound but only sometimes. However, I have noticed that it only plays through the stereo if you change the sound from one option to another quickly and the stereo is already interrupted trying (but failing) to play the earlier sound (I hope this makes sense).
Based on this it might be a timing problem with when the sounds are sent. For example the interruption of the Bluetooth and sending the sound is at the same time, but the Bluetooth takes a while to interrupt the stereo so the sound is already played by the phone (? just an idea) but the bluetooth is not yet interrupted. However, this only seems to be an issue with the Samsung S4 as it works fine with the iPhone and HTC Wildfire. |

Do you know what version of Android your S4 is running?

Hi, it is 4.3 now.
It was 4.2 yesterday but I upgraded it last night with the hope this would fix it, but it did not.
Thanks |

Can you clear the app data for CamerAlert and reinstall it. See if that helps?

Hello,
Just tried clearing and reinstalling and it made no difference.
I did notice again while testing that if you are in settings and changing the sounds/ voices, as you change the sound/ voice and it goes to demo there is a delay before the bluetooth over-rides the stereo system. This is about 3 to 5 seconds, and if you do this as a one-off you get no sound.
If, however, you do the above and while the bluetooth is still over-riden you change to another sound that sound will be heard demoing over the system. So again I suspect it may be something to do with timing - Is the sound playing while the app is trying to over ride the stereo so it is not being heard?
Odd however that is works with the HTC and iPhone. Maybe the S4 is doing something different with the order of connecting/ playing the sounds. Just an idea (?) |

Hi,
I have found an additional problem with the app.
If the app is running while you are on a call and it alerts - whether set to go over Bluetooth or set to go to the device speaker, the app will cause the call to drop of Bluetooth and move to the phone. The phone can still be controlled by Bluetooth e.g. Hang up and if you hang up and dial again it will again be through Bluetooth.
I tested it and all other apps and sounds are fine when you are making a call through Bluetooth, this is the only one that causes the call to fall off Bluetooth. This is only a problem with the Samsung, the app works fine with the HTC and iPhone, so there seems to be a compatibility problem.
Let me know if you need more details.
Thanks |

Probably not a full answer because you had a problem before you updated to 4.3
Following is a link saying that Samsung have 'pulled' the updates for the S3 and S4 because of numerous problems, one of them is due to a bluetooth audio issue.
