Recently got nabbed for speeding. First offence in 14yrs.

Picking up a merc vito with COMAND sat nav to which I shall add the gpspw poi locations, but I would like more....

I got nabbed by an unmarked bike which I presume was equipped with radar. Can anyone recommend a cheap radar (and laser for what it is worth) detector.

On dear. If that's the first time you've exceeded the speed limit in 14 years, that's incredibly bad luck. But I think with that record you don't need to go to the expense of extra kit.

Very unlikely. Most, if not all, mobile handhelds are laser operated. They detect your speed in about half a second. If you can react to the laser detection and slow down enough in less than half a second, then get a laser detector. As you are probably not much better and your car's brakes air not much better than those belonging to the majority of road users, the laser detector is a total waste of money as all it will warn you about is to expect to be stopped by nice Mr. Policeman just a bit down the road. That is unless you were not speeding.
Your first suggestion of a satnav with the PGPSW database is by far the better of the two options (providing you don't turn off warnings for mobile cameras as some people inexplicably seem to want to do) Rolling Eyes

exactly what he said, not much you can do about cars and bikes.

Mobile vans are the same, usually by the time you see them they know what speed you are doing which is why I put up with the warnings for mobiles sites even tho many times they are empty. Best thing to ever happen with PGPS was the use of verbal warnings about type and speed so you know what to be aware of and when you can ignore it (e.g. 30 gatso when your on a motorway).
