Hi all, I wonder if you can help me at all. I have an android device, GT-I5700: it is a little dodgy and slow but works ok. I am planning to use it only as a sat nav (I am getting a separate and newer phone soon) and I am looking for a reliable sat nav product.
Now, I would like something that doesn't rely on an internet connection (the phone has google navigation installed as default, but obviously isn't that reliable when you hit a dead spot and there's is no connection);
Ideally I would like something open source, or free anyway, simply because, as mentioned above, my phone is a little dodgy so I don't want to pay for something to find out that my phone doesn't support it

thank you in advance

You can have a 7 day free trial of Sygic. That has on-board maps so is not dependent on a data connection.

You could have a look at OsmAnd+.
It's free, allows storage of maps on the phone or download by data.

There have been some good reviews about. I have used it a couple of times on short local journeys, but not on a full on long trip.

It may be suitable for what you want, another free mapping app that stores maps on the phone is mapdroid. Not sure if you can navigate with that though. It does use a GPS to fix your location or a more rough fix using the phone signal.

Have a look at CoPilot GPS on the Google Market (Play Store ?) it's free and the maps are stored onboard and only requires Android 2.1 & up
