So the question is - should we revert to postcodes v880? _________________ Dennis

Well, according to the post office web site AB101AA is a valid postcode:
Aberdeen City Council
Resources Management
St. Nicholas House
Broad Street
ABERDEEN
AB10 1AA
But if you have a GO1000 you won't be able to revert to 880.
The 885 postcode file and the 880 postcode file are almost identical in size so as they have deleted AB101AA they must also have added something else.
So you may want to revert to 880 or not depending on which postcodes you want to find! _________________ Paul |

Right ho. I have reinstalled postcode file 880 onto my two PNDs (GO520 and GO550) and will compare results with v885 on my built in Carminat. _________________ Dennis

I can't see me wanting to find AB10 1AA any time soon so I think I'll stick with 885 |

I shall see how it goes with the two different postcodes on the same maps. _________________ Dennis

And the latest postcode file IS embedded in the map data when you update the map using MyTomtom! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

May I ask respectfully how you know what the file structure is like on a GO1005?
Mine is locked down so not visible in windows explorer. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

I don't. But some reading the post might think that all Devices have embedded Postcodes, even though you mentioned the 1005 in the previous post. _________________ Richard

'Ah but Falkird DID say "embedded.... when you update the map using MyTomtom".
that should be enough to imply it's only the case for NAV3 models (the ones that use MytomTom instead of Home).
Out of interest, Richard, have you updated to a v900 map on a NAV2 device using Home yet?
If you have, did you get the new postcodes files at the same time? (presumably arriving in the zip folder). Or do you still have to download them yourself from the obscure URL on the TT servers? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Andy, yes I was very careful to mention MyTomtom rather than Tomtom Home and that I had a GO1005.
On a side note, my other device (a GO950 which uses Tomtom Home) now gets Postcode updates when a new map is released, so this should be the same for other Tomtom Home users?!? I know I got 2 new postcode files when the v900 map was downloaded to my device (UK and NL postcode files).

Ah thanks Steven, that's exactly what I was asking Richard about.
So that's an improvement! It took a long time to come! _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
