Hi
I have just donated my ancient GO 700 to my wife, and replaced it with a new Start 25 Europe, which I am very happy with.
However one function I miss is the compass. Is it available on the Start 25? I can't see it in any menus at all?
Thanks |

Give her the Start and get the 700 back. Do it before she finds out how much better the 700 is _________________ TT Go Essential |

The Start owner's manual (viewable on TomTom's website) doesn't mention a compass feature so it seems the answer is "No, it isn't available on your Start 25." |

You can forget a compass on all the more recent models, first it was dumbed down with the removal of certain options then they deleted it all together.
To be honest from the amount of questions about the compass pointing in the wrong direction when heading East or West I can fully understand why TomTom got rid of it - Mike |

It never pointed in the wrong direction... people just had an odd mental block about how it worked! _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Indeed but from the number of posts made about this issue users clearly didn't understand how a compass should work so it got binned rather than CS having to answer questions from people who thought it was incorrect - Mike |

Well, I'm OK with East and West when I'm driving North. But when driving South, I have to turn my head upside down (I'm talking signs which say M4 East or West). _________________ Dennis

Strangely enough, it doesn't look much different!

Very nice..
Up until version 7 software I think you could get a compass option to 'point to destination' which I found quite useful to check I was going in the right direction. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Yes i liked that feature too. Especially as it showed the distance to destination as-the-crow-flies in the middle.
Also useful if you end up driving on roads not on your map. At a junction you could then take the turn in the direction of the destination, which will probably be right more times than wrong.
I think the feature was dropped to reduce CPU load as the newer Navcores seem to run slower (esp V9).
Mind you i'd rather they concentrate on getting the basics right first: No random reboots, reliable HD traffic service for instance. |
