When adding a new POI with TT USA there is no option to choose the type of icon. After adding a name and clicking OK a snowflake/star like icon is used.
Anyway to add additional icon choices and/or at least be able to choose from the existing icons? My POI data is horrible. thanks |

For each type of POI you will find two files in your map directory. One's a
.ov2 file, the other a .BMP file... ok? _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the response. Not sure how to access those files... When in map mode and attempt to "Add as POI" the drop down menu for Type of POI only says "new type". How do I get to those other files and/or have them selectable in the drop down menu? Thanks for the help. |

When you create a new POI you actually have to invent a group/type name yourself (use the input field). After you have done that your group will be selectable and the files will appear. _________________ Lutz

Ok I figured out how to change the Type . However by default I still get the icon that looks like an asterisk. I want to be able to choose the type of icon that will be labled on the map such as airport, tennis court etc. I can use the asterisk symbol however I want to add restaurants and update airports, rest areas etc. Possible?
I have the US version which is not TT3 if that makes any difference. Thanks again |

I have the US version as well. there's no difference.
Here's the process again
1. you create your first custom POI, name the type "MyPOI"
2. You take the MyPOI.BMP file, copy it to your PC, and change the icon from the star to whatever your POIs should look like (and yes, you will need to MANUALLY copy the restaurant icon if that's what you want)
3. copy the BMP file back into the map directory
4. Now, when you create a new POI, you can select the type "MyPOI" and it will automatically use the changed icon.
Try it out and let me know if you get the result you expected. _________________ Lutz

I think I've figured out how to get my .BMP files to my PC. However where are the files of what I want my .BMPs to look like, park, airport etc.? I'm assuming on my discs? Has anyone made additional icons for download? Thanks for "dumbing" all this down for me. |

When I said MANUALLY i meant manually.... Sorry, you will have to (re)create the icons yourself. They are not stored in separate files.
Feel free to look at the small collection of sample files here http://pocketgpsworld.com/tomtompoi.php _________________ Lutz

Lutz, thanks for the help. After a couple attempts I finally got some BMPs to work. The first try I somehow corrupted the TT POI data... the BMP I imported replaced all the TT icons and all the address data for the POIs was gone. Just reinstalled the maps and now everthing is ok after making sure I had an OV2 file for each BMP I added.
This is very useful for as now I can keep restaurants, gas stations etc. updated. Thanks again! |

Good to hear that. Make sure you use 256 colour BMPs (8bit) THe 24bit BMPs are known to cause issues. _________________ Lutz

Depends on the painting program you use. In PBrush you can say "save as..." and it offers you 16 colors, 256 colors, 24 bit etc _________________ Lutz
