|
|
I'm trying to work out if my new XL Live IQ can actually read road names and if so how I can install more computer voices?
Some of the ads for the machine suggest it reads road names, but TT Home says there are no computer voices available and also says that Dave is not compatible (showing in the list of downloads). I've just manually downloaded the Kate .cab file but I can't work out where to put it. There isn't a Loquendo folder on my Tomtom, just a 'voices' folder which seems to take the standard ones, eg Jane, Tim etc.
I'm generally happy with the XL Live, after my old 720, but if it doesn't have computer voices then that's a real step down.
Any guidance gratefully received |

Text To Speech was made available in certain countries with the XL IQ Live but not in the UK, a few people found out a way to get it working but the "hack" involved the use of a file from a rather dubious source and TomTom got rather upset about the whole issue, had it gone any further then I think a few lawyers would have been on the TT Payroll.
Adding the LoquendoTTS folder and associated files isn't enough to get it working as the device knows it wasn't meant to have TTS due to something stored within the device that isn't accessable to the end user - Mike |

I was offered an XL Live free, but after trying it for a day I returned it. It wasn't a patch on my 720, which I just hope keeps going for as long as I do! I've even found the RDS-TMC satisfactory, although I don't do the sort of mileage that some members of this forum do. _________________ Anita

Thanks Guys
What a shame. I loved my 720 but the age of the maps and the lack of traffic updates, as it wouldn't connect to GPRS via my iPhone, made me invest in a refurbed XL Live IQ Europe. At £109 I was effectively paying for a new map and a live subscription and the machine came free!
But the lack of features is really depressing. No voice control, no computer voices, no bluetooth handsfree, no SD card. And the mounting is so annoying. Bah!
Still, the next one up is just so much more expensive. And as an accurate Sat Nav which can predict what time you'll arrive it's extremely good. Which I suppose is what I really need! |
