All you do is start the program (POIEdit), then File Open, just like any other. _________________ Dennis

I must be really thick!
My TT730 Favorites is full so I want to add them all as POI's (They are all clubs we visit) Searching here I came across the suggestion to use POIEdit which I have downloaded and installed, I tried to follow the suggestions and then realised I was really thick!
I opened the program and noted that the disconnected red symbol was lit, I then connected my SD card to the USB port and got a green connected light That is seemingly as far as I can get, the program does not open any further options, there is no 'File' - 'Open' option as I have seen in some of your screen shots. I tried to open the Mapsettings.CFG file but XP did not want to and the POIEdit program was not on the 'Open With' option list. I copied the CFG file to my desktop and tried to get POIEdit to import it (Thought it worth a try) and could not as it was not a POI file!!
I've been going round in circles and trying various things but it would seem that POIEdit is not seeing my card although it states it is 'Connected'
I like the comment on one post 'Simply open Mapsettings.cfg from there' (POIEDit)
Searching the Help section did not help matters either.
Would you please give me an idea of how tot get the program and my SD card talking to one another?. I did find another instruction page here on POIEdit but after a shutdown and restart cannot now find it.
Hope you can help.

Launch POIEdit on the PC then use the File/ Open command available from the top of the menu in the POIEdit application, this will open up a file path search box which you use to find the MapSettings.cfg file - Mike |

But that's 'POI Manager' not 'POI Edit'. Two very different programs.
You need to download POIEdit, it's still available on their Downloads page here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren.
Thanks for that clue!
I had the right website but on my screen the only downloadable option was the POI Manager, the links at the bottom of your link where not shown! That's why I had POI Manager!
I now see the options under the separate download section
Got there in the end, being an OAP in a teenagers world leaves a lot to be desired.....
Thanks once again and I hope I will get it right this time... |

Easy mistake to make, trapper! Unfortunately, we live in a world where advertising is king, so you have to be VERY careful what you are clicking on on websites. If you look carefully above the box about MyDownloadManager, it's just an advert for something else entirely.
But in this case, it's so prominent that I think the guys at POIEdit have shot themselves in the foot, as no one will be downloading their own program!
P.S. I tried to contact POIEdit to tell them about this topic, and that was a nightmare in itself.
The "Contact" page on their website doesn't work, and nor does their forum link. So I went to the parent company website D-Note Software and even then I had to cut down what I was trying to tell them into one of those annoying "You have 500 characters left" boxes (and even that told lies and wouldn't let me send when I still had several characters "spare".
So if anyone from POIEdit sees this, we'd love to keep recommending your program, but please sort out the website and contact details! _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Good Luck Andy!
I now have the right program
The only map option I have in POIEdit is of foreign lands which is not much use to me, on the POIEdit FAQ site there is a MAP page where there is a map of the UK from 'Gary' but the link no longer works.
Is it possible to add a UK map to POIEdit?
I also note that in the mapsettings.cfg file I have two of most everything, are these one from Favorites and one from the transferred (By hand, what a job!) to a POI file? If I delete one of the duplicates will this mean a deletion of either favorite or POI ?
Don't want to start deleting unless I am sure what will be deleted.
Thanks for your help.

Select the "Google Maps" tab from the bottom of the page, this can then display POI locations on the map.
Make a copy of your MapSettings.cfg file then hack this copy around in POIEdit so it only contains the locations you want to use, the MapSettings file contains locations you have recently visited as well as favourites which probably explains the duplication you are seeing - Mike |

No need to load a UK map... the Google tab will show each poi in the UK.
It works a little strangely, in that if you want to change the zoom level you have to click on the magnifying glass icons and then re-select the POI entry you want to see.
You can also select several POIs at once to show on the map, but if you try too many (such as ALL of them) it seems to slow down to a crawl.
However, for my purposes, I hardly ever look at the maps... I usually just use the program to merge POI files together (which you do using the "Append" and "Save as" commands in the File menu). _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Gentlemen.
Thank you for your replies, as you will see from my screenshot below my Google Map leaves a lot to be desired, like a map !!!
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u273/ajw1100/MissingGoogleMap.jpg
Also you will see many duplicated entries in the right pane which I assume are favorites and are now also POI's (See my post above) will deleting the duplicates here affect either favorites or my new POI file? |

Have you tried clicking on one of the entries? You need to select one for the map to be displayed. _________________ Anita

Yes I have, when I do this brings up a different map showing just that POI, the program shunts nearly off the screen due to the sudden showing of the map.
I cannot get Google map to show which I assume would then show the locations of all the POI's. |

No, it will only show the location you have selected by clicking it.
As Andy_P said:
