Is there a max POI for TT navigator 7 on Windows Mobile 6? I have a Asus A696.

I've just downloaded the POIs from here, I chose a lot and loaded them on, and TT wouldnt open, hung at the opening screen.

Is there a max allowed? if so how many?

cheers

100 Custom Categories, this equates to 100 ov2 files - Mike

Ah I see you think this made it crash then?

So when I use the PGW POI I can obey tick 100 selections, am I right in saying this?

In choosing 100 will it slow it down the responsiveness? I don't think the Asus A696 has the fastest CPU

Thanks Mike, great site...

I don't knw about the Navigator software, but on the TomTom hardware units, there is a limit to the number of POI categories you can put on the machine at all (not just having them ticked). It used to be 169, but it's now 250, any more just get ignored and don't show up at all.

But if you have more than about 20-30 ticked to show on-screen it begins to slow things down significantly.

I guess that Navigator will be similar.

If you have a single category ticked it begins to slow the process down, and it gets progressively worse as you add each one. It takes a few ticks to make it noticeable.

And when counting, remember to include any OV2 files already supplied by TomTom.

I have not had any symptons you describe on my Asus 696 running TTN7, been running TTN for about 18 months and never had it hung or any lag, although have plenty of POIs loaded I generally only have the ones ticked that I am likely to need and dont have any tomtom ones seen but cannot remember now how i removed them, Personally I find the Asus runs TTN7 perfectl with no hassle whatsoever and i dont limit the POIs purposely.

The original TT POIs are built into poi.dat

Ok so I literally count the ova files and am only allowed 100 in the Map folder (UK only as well btw).

I think I will untick some of the unbuilt ones, or go through as you non often used ones.

Has this version of TT, 7, got lane assist? I've been looking at Sygic Mobile Maps, it's on offer for around £14 with discount for UK maps and looks good bit says it uses Tom Tom maps and A696 is supported it says on site.

I've never heard of them, but I also think you can use PGW speed cams on it to.

I'm just thinking now back using TT7 looks a little dated? Although as I say I won't use it that much anyway?

Cheers

Indeed Sygic Mobile Maps uses the same mapping data as TomTom but its more up to date, the interface is very similar in use and you can install third party POI files including the spoken alerts for speed camera warning - Mike

As user of both TTN7 and Sygic Mobile Maps (Android) I do not find any differences in the Mapping although having said that I do not do much distance travelling nowadays anyway and primarily use the Asus when motoring, I mainly purchased Sygic because Sygic was excellent value and my phone has integral Gps and a shame not to utilise it without incurring data charges,
But a few observations might be handy:
1) Sygic Mobile Maps is supposedly being discontinued so that puts it in the same league as Tomtom for Win units.
2) there seems to be a lot of postings that the mapping amd timing of Sygic is not what it should be although due to secondary use only cannot verify this.
3) Sygic mobile maps is now being concentrated ontdo not o Aura which at present do not accept third party POIs and personally i dont think the Asus would be man enough to run this.

Having said that I do think Sygic mobile maps is a very comparable second choice for Tomtom lovers and at £14 is probably worth a try, but bearing in mind it will be of limited duration for updating.

Thanks for in site, just looking at Sygic NM the app looked more up to date than TT7.

To be honest I'm still unsure wether to not just use my iPhone 4, and buy a sat nav app for it (currently have NDrive but now defunct). I would have to buy a car holder though for it, and I believe the iPhone apps are a lot more locked down, as in can't add POIs, speed camera updates etc?

So should I stick to A696, maybe buy Sygic, or go iPhone?

You can use DiskAid ir PhoneAid to load third party POI files in to the Sygic, TomTom, Co-Pilot navigation apps on the iPhone, or, download and install the CamerAlert app and run that behind the nav app for PGPSW speed camera warnings - Mike
