Main website has been down for several days, http://www.novusgps.com/
Anyone heard anything? Have they gone bust? |

I asked the same question Saturday morning and so far - no reply.
The only reason I asked is because I thought Talex have become lax in updating their database.
I re-uploaded my Talex database on Sunday and fortunately it seems to have increased now to 1014 which I think is 2011/January/update 4, unless I'm misreading it. _________________ DashCam:

Hi, yes, that's right, they're on 1015 now.
Very strange, resellers have all the Novus stuff still, but that could just be behind the times and not updated or wanting to get rid of stock. Googling doesn't come up with any info. If it was just a server problem surely a buisiness would want it sorted double quick? |

My thoughts exactly. I always rated Novus over Talex for hardware.
Call me suspicious though but I have often wondered whether Talex actually update the database or whether they have an inbuilt routine that just updates the database number to keep us all happy?
Shame Inforad can't come up with a compatible unit that displays your true speed as well as taking the PGPSW database. I thought the C1 was imminent but seems to have died a death in the UK last time I looked. _________________ DashCam:

true, Novus gave a list of what's changed every week. Talex have no info, it took years to actually tell you on the site if there was a new update so you didn't waste time installing the same info you already had. Without being a hex reader there's no way of telling if anything has changed from week to week or if they just update the screen number. |

I've always wondered how these companies gather the data. The methods they advertise as using simply don't stack up. And there is no way they could operate a team to survey AND make any profit.
And operations such as InfoRad who offer lifetime subs kills the market for subscription funded devices.
When you do the maths, I wonder how long InfoRad and the like can survive let alone Talex and Novus. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi, and thanks for that info. I don't actually use their data much but it's good to have a backup!
Looks like it was some kind of site update then... How strange not to put up a message on the old one re-directing. |

Or they've fallen out again and are trying to resurrect the business under a new name and don't have access to the old one to change or re-direct.
It's all rather odd. I'll see if I can raise them by phone and see what gives. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The temporary Novus page above does have a link to a database download page.
Unfortunately there don't seem to be any 'clickable' links ?

yes, looks like it's under construction and migrating stuff over from the previous site maybe? Still strange for punters who bought their stuff and looking for updates.
But then I seem to remember it took months for bought-out old Talex to get on-line again as new Talex when Blair took over, and it was only on a couple of forums you had to search out on google that customers had any idea what was going on in the meantime! |

Interestingly I can't find any of the previous 1 year/3 year subscription offers on the Talex site. If I click on the enable box in the update page (obviously without entering details) it says direct debit cannot be saved. Is the subscription really now £3.95 a month?... £47.40 a year? Didn't it used to be £29 a year and £69 for 3 years? Boy! is that supposed to be value? |
