I've amended the subject title and info we are looking to collate here

We've had a number of reports of issues with CamerAlert 1.2 when multi-tasking with another navigation app.

The symptoms are loss of GPS fix in either CA or the GPS Nav app and/or CA quits.

In order for us to replicate it try and identify the cause we need to collate information from anyone so affected.

If you have experienced this issue please respond in this thread with the following information:

iPhone Model:
Navigation App:
App Version:
CamerAlert App Version
Brief description of circumstances and symptoms

Thanks in advance!

Ah, so it's not just me.

iPhone 4 16Gb
No TomTom car kit
TomTom 1.5
CamerAlert 1.2

I tend to have both apps running, with TomTom in the "foreground", i.e. displaying on the screen. The symptoms I see are TomTom appearing to lose GPS reception (screen goes grey) every few seconds for a second or two, then getting reception back again, which sometimes causes it to recalculate the route.

I can't be 100% sure but this seems to get worse the longer both applications run for. I also suspect that it's made CamerAlert miss speed cameras on a couple of occasions, although that could have been because they weren't in the database (unlikely I know).

This doesn't happen at all when CamerAlert isn't running; I don't know the internal working but it looks like the GPS is flip-flopping between the two applications.

Glenn.

Thanks Glenn, never seen this myself and I'm running iPhone 4 with same software. Had it running for a good 3hrs straight and all Ok.

Tis an odd'un for sure. Do you have any other nav apps you can test against to see if the same issue occurs with non-TomTom nav apps?

I should have added that I've got some custom TomTom voices (Darth Vader to keep the kids amused ...), in the unlikely event that's got something to do with it.

It seems that this issue may not be just TT, had one support ticket suggesting CoPilot also affected.

I've edited the opening post and subject title to request feedback from anyone with the issue of CA quitting whilst in the background or GPS issues.

We need to find the pattern here as we have been unable to recreate it here.

I think we can exclude those as a cause.

iPhone 4 16Gb
No TomTom car kit
NDrive 10
CamerAlert 1.2

Phone is mounted mid dash in a Brodit mount just above radio height. Did a test run to petrol station and back.

NDrive occasionally let's out a rising or falling triple bleep which appears to correspond with it gaining or loosing sat lock. On the way up with NDrive and CamerAlert running the rising and falling bleeps where constant and the display was lagging a lot - showing me on a roundabout when I had long cleared it for example.

On the return journey without CamerAlert running I only had the initial rising bleeps when I started NDrive and it got it's initial lock. For the rest of the journey not a bleep to indicate loss of sat lock. Also no lag either.

Tomorrow I'll test again with a Griffin Powerjolt lead which is rated for the iPhone 4 as it recently recharged my phone from 20% to full charge whilst streaming music over Bluetooth to an Ioplay unit and running the GPS.

iPhone 4
Latest Navigon, Latest TomTom, Latest CamerAlert all running at same time.

Either Nav app in foreground I had no issues with satellite lock running a few miles with each app. Switching to CamerAlert every so often worked as planned - app carried on instead of fully reloading.

Will try some other nav apps tomorrow.

UPDATE tried with a power lead this morning and whilst the loss of sat lock wasnt as frequent it was there none the less.

CameAlert worked fine otherwise.

iPhone Model: 4 (32GB) running 4.1 (8B117)
Navigation App: TT
App Version: 1.5
CamerAlert App Version 1.2

Phone mounted centrally on dash above radio, no TT kit. Occasional loss of GPS signal. When running both apps together TT has shut down a couple of times as has Cameralert, have not noticed any common issues.

I should have mentioned, I'm pretty sure I saw most issues when not running on external power. I may also have been playing music in the iPod app in the background.

iPhone 3GS 16Gb (v4.1)
Griffin Powerjolt rated 2.1 A
TomTom 1.5 (with traffic)
CamerAlert 1.2
Brodit vent mount

All other apps are shut down and phone rebooted, some days it works better than others. It seems to work better for a few days after a CameraAlert database update but this could be just coincidence.

My symptoms are TomTom loosing GPS reception, no speed displayed (when just in map mode no route planned). When a route is planned screen goes grey every few seconds and sometimes it locks completely and needs to recalculate, I sometimes I get the warning “could not activate cellular data” I never see this warning unless both apps are running but it does not happen that often but wondered if its related to the tom tom traffic.

Camera Alert sometimes closes so when you select it from the home menu the start up screen appears again, sometimes it just does not announce alerts but no start up screen when you select it.

Both apps run fine on their own.

No problem here.

Ipod Touch 3G 64GB (Jailbroken)
Ios 4.1
TT1.5
CA 1.2
TomTom Dock.

Only a couple of short trips Telford to Wolvo centre and Telford to Birmingham Centre.
All worked fine with the music going and 3 other apps runing at the same time.

Kev....
