"promised they would be returning sometime in 2011"

Is this the same TomTom promise to provide a HD Traffice receiver that never happened.

The POI development priority will rapidly change once sales are affected....

"promised they would be returning sometime in 2011"

December 2011 is sometime in 2011...... and then they announce they didn't have time & it'll be 2012.

Sorry I don't buy it [the excuse or the TomTom]

Guess I'll be looking at Garmin Laughing

Well flippin 'eck! I decide to have a look around the PGPSW forums, come across this thread.

I've only gone and ordered one through Amazon which is due to be delivered tomorrow or Friday as a treat for myself Mad

My GO 910 works fine, I've just updated the maps, passionately love PGPSW camera POI's, and other thrid party ones too.

I've just checked the Amazon returns policy and it's going back and I don't care whether I lose the postage both ways.

I will e.mail TomTom (knowing full-well that it will be water off a ducks' back) with my reason(s).

Why the hell didn't I read the forum first!!

Oh boy, "Treat"! Has it actually been dispatched? (if it has, it might be the very first one in the world, nobody else has yet reported an actual despatch or delivery). Cancel before it sets off?

Yes, despatched and due for an 8th of October delivery. Will post here when it arrives! It was also available via Comet.

Did a search for best deals on www.pricerunner.co.uk and the price of £249.99 came up at both outlets.

Didn't arrive today.

Can I ask you learned people in this forum, if you had the choice given that the GO 1000 is likely to underperform, what make & model would you opt for?

This news is too late for me. On the promise of no 3rd party POIs I've bought a Garmin 1490T and we are getting on famously.

topref Mikealder reckons the 940 is the best and I trust his judgement - you should be able to get a refurbished one still.

My car tends to have a Garmin 3790T in it these days, whilst it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the 940 Live product it is a rather impresive device.

Why switch brand? Well having had enough of dead Live services, poor updates that tend to break more than they fix, enough was enough.

Strangely the lack of custom POI support on the Go-1K had nothing to do with my decision to go for the Garmin, the poor quality of navcore updates coupled with the continued disasterous Home software, broken RDS reception due to map files incorrectly ported to the device with v835 mapping (Home issue again) and the latest Live debacle with Navcore 9,054 tipped the scales for me, prime reason for my stance against the 1K is the Home_3 interface and its inability to perform basic but essential functions - Mike

Well Mike, that say's a lot. I have been faithfully using TomTom products since they came onto the market, up till now have been reasonable happy. Sadly there is nothing in your last post that I can disagree with.

Can I assume that the installation of POI's is as straight-forward on the 940 as it is on the 910?
