Not yet.

Internal memory varies with type. e.g. the single country version I have has 2GB internal memory, the Europe map version sports 4GB. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not being able to use the pgs speedcameras has put me right off this unit, I was thinking of getting one , but not now.
Are they using the same text to speech voices for uk or are they new ones ? Are the maps any better ? |

Same TTS as available on other models.

I don't think that's so.....
All the previous Go models I have owned have used the Loquendo TTS engine (although maybe some of the ONE/XL used something different).
But the 1000 definitely/maybe uses TTS by 'Nuance', and the voice I have heard so far ("Serena" - UK female) is absolutely stunning in quality compared to what has gone before.
I never tended to use the TTS on my Go's because I found the inherent distortion on the voices so irritating, but the new Nuance voice combined with the far better audio quality generally, means I use it all the time.
Edited to add "maybe" in line 4!

Ah I stand corrected, I've always used TTS and don't find the voice on the 1000 markedly different
Where did you see it was a Nuance Voice OOI? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Three pages and another positive to compliment the magnetic mount, should have made the review a whole lot easier to write - Mike |

Does the application for the T1000 say what side of the street the destination is on?

Wow, you surprise me! I think the difference is enormous!

Actually it may be a bit more complicated than that...
If you check the "Licences" page it mentions Xiph.org Foundation, but if you check the "Copyright" page, Nuance gets a mention
If you look at the Xiph.org website they seem to cover the OggVorbis audio file format and other multimedia codec type stuff.
But if you check the Nuance website, they seem to be more involved in voice recognition.
So I assumed the voices were from Xiph, but others on the Beta program assured me it was Nuance.

Indifferent to the mount arrangements, like to experiment with third party stuff anyway. Pleased at improved TTS [Simon can sound like he's had a few]. Disappointed with memory, especially as there was the prospect of an iTunes type application shop, would have wanted 8GB, plus SDHC option. Most importantly was hoping for a big improvement in cpu performance, any info on it? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

The Apps thing is vapourware. TomTom never claimed it would and those sites that published the claims seem to have added 2+2 and got 100!
The route calculation is quicker but nowhere near as fast <yet> as it was claimed it would be. Still a huge improvement if not instant as we were told at the launch.
But I have to add that this is still a pre-release version so it's unfair to make too many criticisms of unfinished software. Let's criticise it when they do release instead! _________________ Darren Griffin |

considering they allowed engadget to publish an official review of the pre-release version i think it would be fair to assume that this is very similar to the release version and, as such, all criticisms are still valid?
