So what happens in 2015 when FM transmissions are switched off? Will any data be broadcast over digital using new receivers?

As far as i understood it was just analogue TV and radio that was being switched off. Other communications would be untouched and free to use the freed up bandwidth.....

I know this is an old thread but current plans (which I dont think are finalised) are to switch off VHF FM transmissions which will kill all TMC transmissions.

Of course, with the lack of interest in DAB radio (especially in cars), this may be a long time coming and I cannot see anyone wanting to buy space in this spectrum unless DAB uses the same FM band as FM and switching off the FM transmission would allow more DAB stations.

I assume that there is no great move to increase the number of users of TMC and by 2015 I dont think there will be many left?

The cat is out of the bag...
Somehow in the rush to change from FM to DAB someone seems to have either forgotten or ignored the fact that a lot of Satnavs derive their info from national FM stations.....
